On my Asus motherboard, the RAM module holder is made of plastic and the clips on the left side will not properly keep the memory modules in place. What I did, I cut a piece of a zip tie and inserted it like this in the picture shown. Without the zip tie inside, there is about 1 mm space between and the memory modules will pop out.

Are there any other ways to do this or should I just keep it like this? On better motherboards I have seen metallic clips and these plastic are not good in my opinion.

Generally, this is the weak point of every mobo. It seems to me that it gets worse ase the plastics age.

Lately I bought ZIDA 4DPS mainboard. I love the footprint, etc., but one of the "spikes" from the memory banks seems like it's about to brake anytime soon.

You can probably replace the bank (My first 5x86 build (also motherboard component level repair)), but there's some serious soldering involved.

Had the same issue on a 386 mobo. Picked the best RAM I could find for the system and used a glue gun to hold it in place. Committed, but did the job.

Glue-guns and duct tape are like.... "A great inventkion" 🤣

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

I've run into lots of broken DIMM sockets (I think caused by sloppy storage) but never thought about how bad it must be to have this problem on SIMMs, where the memory will just pop out.

A few years ago there used to be a seller on eBay who kept selling bulk lots of funny little low level components like memory sockets and ZIF CPU sockets and Slot-1 retaining brackets and so on. It seemed like they were liquidating a board manufacturer.
At the time I thought I could never solder those components so they'd be useless, but today I find myself wishing I had bought some of that stuff.

There still seems to be for sale SIMM sockets. Removing a memory socket would probably need a desoldering station, but they are very expensive.

This Asus motherboard is good because it also have ATX power connector, but the memory sockets clips are the worst.

Its pretty easy if you have a Hotair Station (WEP 858D) Avaible for only 35$.
Just heat the Pins on the Backside and if the solder melts you can Knock a little bit on the board and you can it easily pull out, if it doesnt fall by it self.
Be warned, don't heat any chips near SIMM Slots too long, and if you're too brute your smd capacitors/resistors fall off too.
