Hey, it's my first post here. Awesome forum!
Anyway I've got an old laptop I'm using for DOS games, with a dock connected to it with Vortex 2 for sound.
Now most games work brilliantly, but today I tried getting CD Music to work in DOS and, well I think it works, but there's no way for me to output the sound.
The laptop's CD drive is obviously connected to the laptop's speakers and not the Vortex 2, so I'm uncertain how I can get the CD music to output on the Vortex 2.
To be clear, the laptop's speakers aren't supported on DOS.
So any possible solutions to this? Some software that will do the magic? A virtual drive that supports audio CDs? Something...?
Thanks!

Seems very unlikely, if you can't do anything about the laptop's DOS support.

I'd try to figure out HOW the internal drive routes the audio to the speakers. I've never had a notebook drive from that era, do they have analogue CD Audio pins?

Run a patch cable from the laptop's headphone/line output to the line in on the Vortex 2. Just be sure to adjust the volume level on the laptop so it doesn't clip.

Thanks for the tip, this allowed me to make CD music play on the Vortex 2 in win98, but on DOS I'm still not able to output the CD music.
When I change tracks and stuff I can hear the CD drive reacting, but it seems that DOS isn't able to interact with the laptop's speakers and that includes the line out...

It's not DOS itself that will be the problem, it'll probably be the Vortex 2's mixer software, or lack thereof. Does its driver come with a mixer program? If so, it might be possible to use it to enable playback from the line in jack.

Actually there is a dos mixer software for the Vortex 2 and I'm using it, all the volumes are cranked to max.
And by the way if I just connect the laptop's line out straight to the speakers there's still no sound coming out on DOS.

You still didn't bother to write what kind of laptop you have so we could know what sound solution it has...
