I got a new unused Philips PSC604 sound card. This has at least a game port but is this sound card otherwise worth keeping? Do the analog game port work if used in Windows 7 and DOSBox?

I'd like to see any opinions on this as well. I've had one of these cards in my parts bin for years now and never used it.

Try it out. I have one of the Philips cards but it has the Thunderbird Avenger chip whereas the PSC604 appears to have something different. If it uses the same Qsound effects you might find it pleasant. I like the EAX implementation with the Avenger chip.

If the analog gameport works in Windows 7, I can't see any reason why it can't be used by DOSBOX. I think the question is whether Windows 7 still supports analog gameport.

Anyway, doesn't this thread belong to Marvin?

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

Well, I'll move it to Marvin since Kreshna asked 😉

May be building up another machine today or tomorrow and decided to try and use this card instead of my usual sound blasters.

Are there any kind of standard tests or exercises to put the card through that anyone would like us to try out?

I would play NFS3 and see if EAX sounds ok. On some cards the effects don't fade in and out properly. In fact I don't think it works correctly on any of Creative's WDM drivers. The PSC705 does it well though.
