Looks like I misplaced the original cable and need to make my own. Has anyone tried it? The cable has to have edge connectors on both ends. I was thinking of modifying an existing cable and just moving the connector for drive B: to the far end of the cable.

Should work, if the pins are 1-1 and not swapped on one end, which they probably aren't.

If the cable is too short then you can always carefully remove the edge connector and stick it on a different, longer cable, or even just swap connectors on the same cable, so you end up with an edge connector for the controller and the IDC connector in the middle.

In theory you can test it out before modifying the cable, because having the extra connector hanging off the end will introduce some noise and make the drives less reliable, but they might still work just enough for you to know whether you can proceed or not.
