I play AOE2HD with lapses in between. I sometimes play DOS games but except for Pirates! Gold / WarLords II / Civilization I can never bring myself to finish a game. 😀

I'm not a good gamer, so often I get blocked on a mission / stage of a game. At that times, it helps a lot going into another game (better if it is another kind of game, don't jump from a FPS into another FPS!) and play it some time. After that, most times I'm able to pass that block.

Yeah, same here. In my youth, I had more constitution with games--there were no online walkthroughs. Sometimes I bought clue books, but usually I just kept trying til I figured it out or gave up. Now in my late 40s, I just want to enjoy the gaming experience. I usually pick the easiest skill levels and have no qualms with having a walkthrough up on another computer. Right now, going back and forth between Tie Fighter and Ultima Underworld, like you say, being different genres helps keep the mind fresh.

I seem to play whatever I have just installed on the current build I am messing with. No structure or real goals. I do prefer arcade games however these days, fit better in the time constraints I have, RPG's or similar are a no-go. Current fave is Revenge of froggie for DOShttps://archive.org/details/RevengeofFroggie_1020.

The only time when I did not multi-task was when I was playing Quest for Glory I during junior high, because I was so enamored with the game. My previous Sierra games were Code Name: Iceman and Police Quest, and I didn't like them too much because I always suck in adventure games. Quest for Glory, on the other hand, has RPG elements, less linear gameplay, and easier puzzles. Suffice to say I became so addicted to the game.

Star Control II is a great game, but I multitasked it with PC version of Street Fighter II and Buck Rogers: Matrix Cubed. TIE Fighter Collector CD is a great game, but I also multitasked it with Heroes II of Might and Magic, Red Alert, and Quake. I also multitasked Ultima Underworld II and Ultima VII.

I'd like to use desqview with games and apps with dosbox-x or a vm.

What's your style for playing PC games...do you play one game at a time til completion, play multiple games at a time, jump between games without a goal to finish, etc?

I play many games "at a time", which means from time to time, and it takes me literally years to finish one game 😀

I play more than one game at a time. Though sometimes, certain games keep me occupied until I finish them.

Playing a single mindless game leaves a bad aftertaste in me.
Once I was playing Diablo 2 almost everyday. Only Diablo 2. I felt sick ... a feeling difficult to describe.

On the other hand, playing other games one at a time gives a sort of achievement feeling... for e.g. Adventure games... true RPG games (not action RPG)...etc.

Other games provide a side relief... a fun "snack" in between meals - Street Fighter series, Descent, Doom, Gods, Nighthunter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most beat-em-ups - including Streets of Rage, Golden Axe series, via emulators.

back when I was into gaming in a big way I would play a game to the end if it held my interest. Doom, Raptor, Warcraft, C&C, RA, are the earliest I can remember. GTA 3 (the missions not 100%) was probably the last.
I remember giving up in Warcraft 2 after been stuck on a level for a few weeks and feeling like a failure, I think that was my 1st where I didn't make it. Months or even years later I loaded my save game and got passed it fairly easy, the break obviously did me good.

Now though I'm all over the place!
