Hello,

I have a SS7 board model NMC-5VMe (looks like EPOX MVP3C). When I power it up it POSTs fine only keyboard leds are blinking non-stop and so keyboard doesn't work at all. They are blinking from the power on.

What could be wrong?

I tried both AT and ATX power supply. Capacitors look good and there is nothing suspicious around the keyboard connector (by the naked eye). I'm using PS2-DIN adapter, but so far this hasn't been an issue. At the moment I don't have any normal DIN keyboard at hand.

Thanks

I can't find any easy answer to Your problem, but can verify that Your motherboard is the same as a Epox EP-MVP3C2

Try another PS2 Keyboard if You haven't already.

AFAIK, Mvp3 should take usb keyboards, as well as Ali boards do. You can try with a modern usb one (by using a standard usb header) to check if the problem is the onboard keyboard circuitry.

the board doesn't have a standard header, it has an EPOX 20 pin mess

- already tried with another PS2 keyboard - no difference
- thought about USB... but USB keyboard function has to be enabled in the BIOS. By default it's disabled

As it looks now I'll use it for parts. I've a few Epox MVP3 boards with bad caps.

I have too much untested stuff and it seems a lot of it is broken one way or the other 🙁 I kinda like this board though.

I wouldn't scrap this board, those Epox boards are getting stupid rare and the prices can be crazy in my part of the world. Just put it in a anti static bag and put it away for later.

Of course I won't scrap it anytime soon. But I'm not sure what can be done with it as the functional keyboard is a must in my book 😕

did you try an AT keyboard or only PS2?

I used PS/2 keyboard with AT(DIN) adapter. I use this almost exclusively for years now. As said before I don't have a real AT keyboard at hand (it's all packed away). I will try with real AT keyboard once I get to it.

I haven't seen this kind of behaviour before and that's why I'm asking if someone else did.

Do you have the +5V VCC present at the keyboard connector? It could be missing (blown fuse/severed trace) and the keyboard could be trying to power itself up from the data/clock lines by voltage backfeeding through clamping diodes, causing such erratic/intermittent behavior.

Measured the keyboard +5V and it's actually getting +4.65V. PSU gives 5.3V.

I guess something is going on with this +5V line. I'm not sure how to find out what 😒

This line is also connected to the PS/2 mouse port which reads the same 4.65V. I don't know where it goes from there 😕
