Finally found a USB Wi-Fi adapter with Windows 98SE support, so now I am logging into VOGONS with my oldest PC.

MicroATX Tower
AMD K6-2 400MHz
160MB SDRAM
3DFX Voodoo 1 (PCI)
ATi Rage II+DVD Graphics (PCI)
Soundblaster-16 CT1740 (ISA)
Roland MT-32 (MIDI using SB16)
Windows 98SE
Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.16 (didn't want to use KernelEx on this PC)

Anyone else? Let's see some Windows 95, 3.1, OS/2 or Linux in here.

I'll probably do this with my P166 laptop, when that happens I'll post pictures. Next week, since this week I'm in San Francisco on vacation! (Hello Maker Faire Bay Area!)

Somebody's probably going to post pics of an old 5150 logging on to VOGONS with 5 1/4 floppy disks, thus rendering all the other posts obsolete 🤣

I visited with a 486DX/2 66 running DOS 6.22, using Arachne browser. It wasn't a pleasant user experience.

I hadn't surfed to VOGONS, but I did surf to a forum called "Cafe Tropico" several years back. This on my ancient 486 DX4-100, running MSDOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11WFWG. Wish I had a screenie of VOGONS though 😀

I'm on a Celeron "mendocino" 466 right now with 256 MB ram, windows ME & retrozilla. It's this machine or my K6-2 450 with similar specs that I usually browse and post on vogons with.

I came here once on a Toshiba Satellite 425CDT with a P100 and 40MB RAM to download some drivers. I was using an Orinoco wireless card and it was surprisingly quick. But that's because this site is relatively simple, pretty much anything else other than Google was a total slog.

What I use more often on the Internet is my Dell Dimension 4100, P3 866Mhz and 128MB RAM with Opera 10.63 on Win98 and it's actually a passable experience for the most part. I can browse Reddit, Wikipedia, various forums and abandonware download sites without a hitch. I can even have 2-3 tabs open before it starts going haywire.

I've been on here with a 500 MHz iMac G3 I found. It came with Netscape so that's what I used. 😜
Didn't try to log in and post though.

Does "ping"ing the server and grabbing files directly count? If so, I've been here on a 286-6. Otherwise I have been here and browsed on my 486DLC-40 and have posted on my U5S-Super40 several times, sometimes out of boredom, sometimes simply because I could not be bothered to start another computer to do something this simple - a few of my "What retro activity..." posts have been made from Arachne.

I have been other places on old machines, I always set the network up early when getting something running and it isn't unusual for me to FTP or otherwise connect and obtain files from round the internet that I need to make the machine work. Stuff like video drivers or desktop wallpapers. Makes sense as I don't have to sit around copying them over again and with PKUNZIP I can quickly unpack archives at the command line.

All this talk makes me want to figure out some way to connect my "enhanced" 5150 to my network. I would have absolutely no idea how to do that though. I'd have to do it with some kind of external network device... Most likely via a parallel port, since every single other slot or port is occupied aside from the external floppy.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

I've been here on my PII rig (450mhz, 64mb ram and a Radeon 9250) but the site's layout was broken quite heavily in IE5. Currently browsing/posting from my Latitude C800 laptop (P3 800mhz, 128mb ram and some ATI mobility chipset), I wish this thing was a lot more powerful, great scissor switch keyboard, extremely high res display and the ability to play Quake 3 Arena at good framerates, for 2001 this was a beast of a laptop and I wish I could buy something of this build quality/design with modern hardware.
I also once browsed on a Transmet Crusoe based thin client, shame that thing died on me

I'm not familiar with the C800, but the Latitude D800 is a Pentium M-based laptop usually with a GeForce 4 chipset. That would be a very nice laptop, great for Windows ME. I'm sure the D800 shares the same mobo chipset as the D600. The GeForce 4 has very good drivers for 98/ME.
