They're NOS, Rev. C silicon (AM78C201AKC)

See: http://i.imgur.com/hLTqYis.jpg
Came in their original trays and moisture protection.

There are still 20.000 Rev. B (AM78C201KC) floating around on various chinese websites. But those were more expensive than what I paid ... and you probably know the problem with chinese IC faking/reconditioning.

That pic of NOS IC's is the last straw - I have no interest in owning an original GUS, but I do want one of these 😎

Awesome, it seems we are set then with the good stuff 😁

It is always my fear when I get ICs that they could be kcnock off, that's true. Last time I came across this was with some TI 7374 rgb/sync amps. They really looked like the real deal but powering them and after a while they just burned. I got a refund - no further questions asked so I assume the seller knew what was going on. After that I stuck with respected stores and resellers and just pay more, no issues yet 😀

"Samples" is the magic word. Even tho these chips came from a reputable source from the USA, I asked if I could get 3 chips for evaluation beforehand - which I got a positive reply to. If that never happened I'm uncertain if I would have bought the whole lot.

be careful with openwatcom, the patch from real watcom 11.0b to 11.0c (openwatcom) removed lots of stuff. 10.6 or 11.0a/b are ok but id avoid 11.0c/openwatcom.

ksh was common. sounds like they used the mks toolkit in the build system. mks toolkit provided dos with bash/ksh/tcs/cshell etc. and lots of utilities. basically it was mingw before we had mingw.

A small update from my side:
1. A follow-up e-mail has been sent to EYE & I.
2. Two ads have been posted on Russian local forums (aim - to find a coder to make a turnkey package regarding the 4Mb ROM and modified drivers):

Some small news ... someone joined the project as a coder 😀

Also, turns out the "Pro Patches Lite 1.61" has a 2MiB version, which can be condensed down to 1MiB when converting those down to 8bit samples.
Therefore, if everything works as expected, I _might_ be able to offer a "copyleft" alternative to the original ROM.

I just figured out an alternative approach: There's a program called "Awave Studio" which allows you to edit FFF/DAT banks. Using that program you could convert the GSFULL4M to 8bit, to make it half the size and downsample selected samples (they range from 11030Hz to 47715Hz) or even remove some to make it fit in a 1MiB bank.

Slightly offtopic: Has anyone of you ever seen a "SC850 WAVExtreme 32 PRO" in the wild? I do have the SC800 here, which is anything but interesting, but the SC850 supposedly has support for up to 16MB RAM.

Aaaaand we're on the bad side of things again.

Just got the news that I'll have to move out within the next 3 months and look for a new place (luckily nothing went wrong there and it's all within consent). This of course massively shifts priorities on my side.

If you want to know if I am interested, the answer is hell yeah 😉
If you are looking for a betatester, I definitely want to cooperate. I have plenty of PC retro riggs to test with.

Since this becomes the topic every second page it seems ... first batch is closed, second batch will probably happen and be open for everyone (first come, first serve).
When the time for beta-testing has come I already have a few folks in mind.

Oops ... I'm still around ... no progress yet, but the private situation got cleared up recently 😀
Spending a bunch of time expanding my sidejob restoring/repairing old homecomputers at different places.
Expect a bump in 3-4 weeks from now.

Also buying an EPROM programmer soon-ish to offer preprogrammed (alternative) ROMs.
Any success with Eye & I?

Shit.... I hope you can deal with it. Really awefull to move, yet so nice when it's finally over.
Have you found a new place to live? Hope the ones you rented at, are willing to help you find something new.

As for the beta testers. Yeah... Hope to see them reporting positive results back to you.
I really like to see this finished. And if this is going to take 6 month's more, then no problem.
Time is of no issue in this. As it has been something like 20 years or so since Gravis stopped making soundcards.

Great to hear that everything's fine already!
Unfortunately no news with Eye & I. They are not interested apparently.
I have a programmer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genius-G540-USB-Unive … I-/321347814855
I used it only once and won't need in the next 1-2 years, so I can lend it to you for free.
