Have any of you made your own retro ringtones? I made some about a year ago that I've used pretty regularly in that time. I always get blank stares when people hear them. 🤣. If you've made any, feel free to share.

Cheers!

I had Magical Sound Shower as my ringtone on a succession of phones in the 2000s. Too lazy these days, I have the stock Android tune 😎

I recorded the Ultima IV ones from AppleWin emulator. It's basically just three versions of the opening song: full version, edit of first half, edit of 2nd half. They are in OGG format. There is a noticeable skip at the start of the song, but that's how it plays every time in AppleWin. I can't remember if that's how it originally played on real hardware.

The Trek ones I downloaded from some website. They are .3gp format.

The System Shock ones I edited down from here: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=2285.0 They are in OGG format. The way they are composed and edited, they make surprisingly good ringtones. My favorite is the (in-game) email notification sound, which I use as my text notification. 😀

And the dial up modem I downloaded from some site. It is in MP3 format and is my default ringtone.

I also have some Dino Eggs sound bites I made from AppleWin. I use a couple of them for email notification sounds. In particular, the sound when you heal by walking into the time warp, and the sound when you warp into a new level.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

For years I've had the intro from Pressure Cooker (Atari 2600) as my phone ringtone mainly because I love the history behind it and it's a really catchy tune. Thing is, I really liked it but now I absolutely hate it! I believe it' some subconscious negative reinforcement thing that I have, maybe I've been conditioned to dislike phone calls so hearing it now fills me with negative instead of positive emotions. So what did I learn from this? Don't use something you like as your ringtone unless you want to stop liking it. 😜

I had the opposite experience. 😀 I was using System Shock ring tones for months before I built my retro PC, and all it did was inspire me: List the PC games that you have beaten

I use the Tri Optimum sound when I get a SMS or notification.

I use a repeating clip of Half-Life's "Diabolical Adrenaline Guitar", from the alpha version of the track which sounds totally different from the retail version, as my ringtone. I don't know that counts as "retro" though, but it's still a 1997 dated thing.

I used the Amiga version of Patrick Phelan's Miami Ice (Lotus III) as a ringtone back in 2004 on my taco ph...errr N-Gage classic. Really loved this game's soundtrack in my youth! This one and the main theme were my favourites. At some point I had One Must Fall 2097's theme as well.

Absolutely. 😀 Kinda like the "pager" sound in System Shock that I use for my SMS.
