In before don't do it and sec. problems... 😵 Also sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Anyway I want to host a FTP and HTTP server from a windows95 box and was wondering what period correct software you would use for this? It's been years since I done this on a old box and it's not like I can install the newest version of apache in 95 or even 98 (I think)
I'm thinking of using Microsoft Personal Web Server for HTTP, but at a loss for the FTP.

I also would like to set the box up as a VPN or telnet server too, I know that pushing it, but I never done that in 95 and thought I give it a try.

Dose anyone know of any good guides and period correct software I should use for this task? I'd like to use only M$ software for this project, but if you know of anything better let me know.

P.S.
This is just a for fun project I wanted to do, nothing fancy. I Don't care if the system gets compromised somehow, that can be fixed with a simple format and backup restore and change of an IP.

Also the server will be on it's own subnet/lan apart from the rest of my home network and behind its own firewall. That is if I host anything out side my network.

The problem you are going to have is figuring out what older versions of existing modern software would have run on Windows 95.

I know BulletproofFTP worked on 95 at one time but they dropped support for it a while back.

Here is an option that actualy offers support for 9x currently but it costs money.

Thanks guys, I'll look into those.

I'm not to worried about finding older versions of software that works on 95. I'll just download every version and find the newest one that works or read the release notes.

I used "G6 FTP Server" back in the day. The last release available for Windows 9x would be version 2.0 RC1. I don't have my copy anymore and wasn't able to dig one up on google. :\

Why? If it's just for hosting, use something normal, like a lightweight Linux distribution.
