Well... I found this today. A nice 486dx2 machine. IBM model (something) number 330.
I have absolutely no idea if it is working or not, as the case was all bent and parts was missing.
It looks like a standard IBM computer, sold without cache I guess, as they are missing and
the jumpers are set to no cache.

All in all... A fine machine, no to little rust (some at screw holes). Coin cell battery, VL-Bus,
Ps/2 connectors and such.
What surprises me, is that this computer has soft-power-on. Just like ATX boards.
There is Cirrus Logic 5430 VL-Bus onboard and there is two pure ISA and one ISA + VL-Bus risercard.
The best of it all... It is that exact IBM case-design that I like the best of all IBM case-designs.
Just love the look of it. 😜 Uhhh... The original 270 Seagate HDD was still in the machine.
No CD-Rom, Floppy or soundcards though.... (One stick of mem was in it too)

Now...
I hope this one is working. I need to open the PSU to check if all caps are ok.
I need to clean it all, then do a basic POST test and finally re-assemble this machine.

Any advice from people here at vogons on what I should look out for, other than just do the usual test's
and finally have a working machine. Now for some pic's. 😀

Check the psu and go from there, got a IBM socket 4 system and the psu is in Bad shape.

Well.... It fired right up, after I put it together again. Then it came with 3 beep codes.
The power switch did not work and no picture, so I cut the power.
Now it is dead. Not even outside the case and with another psu will it turn on.
Tried with and without the ram installed. Nothing makes it come back.
I even tried installing a different 486dx2 CPU. Nope... Nothing at all.

Any thoughts?

That board layout reminds me a lot of an Acer machine I have.

Not sure if it applies to you, but my Acer won't POST without the riser card inserted.

I looked at all the jumpers and found all sorts of options. It even has on-board RAM which can be disabled if you want to use the sockets. It has an onboard graphics card (ATI) and PS/2 ports which is nice.

Tried it with the riser board. Still no luck. 🙁

I plugged in an atx psu using an atx/at converter.
The powerled turns on and there is one click sound from the beeper. The CPU remains cold. And no other components are getting hot.

My advice: recycle it. IBMs need proprietary parts. Not worth the hassle.

Lykke til!

Oki. I will give it a go, using all possible ways that I know of. Before it will be scrapped. Just washed it, and letting it dry. Drying it in the oven at 50 degree celcius for 30 minutes and then 25 celcius for a couple of hours. Using the air cycling in order to move the damp air.

It seems the IBM I took apart a couple months ago will fit your case (from first glance). Mine is newer though and even though I stripped it, I kept all the IBM proprietary stuff, including the PSU and the riser card.

If you want, I could take some pics, perhaps you can still use it.

It's newer though, a Socket 7 BUT with Opti Viper chipset (the riser card has only ISA and PCI though, no VLB).
I got this from someone in the street and it still worked last time she used it, but this was several years ago and I never tried booting it up since I got it. Only found it again a couple months ago after I had forgotten I actually had it.

You happen to be interested by any chance?

I think I will pass on it. If i can't make this work, I will just junk it all. 🤣

They are. I have tested it with another dx2 and other modules, wich I have described previously.

Just be sure to list for sale somewhere before junking it. you never know, maybe someone like me might live close to you and buy it to fix up or for parts.

On a side note, don't put hardware on top of ESD bags. The outside of ESD bags are conductive unlike the insides.

Are you sure the cpu and ram can be used with that mobo? and what about jumpers?

Pretty shure, as the CPU that were in it are an 486dx2-66 and the one I have as sparepart, are an 486dx2-66.
As well as it is jumpered to 486dx2-66. The jumper settings are all on a label inside the case.

All other mem modules that I have, both EDO and FPM are not making this machine come to life.
Just hope the washing and the drying at 50 degree celcius have done something. No high hopes here though.

Noted... 😀 Thanks.
Never really given it any thoughts, as I have never had any issues with it.
Perhaps I have killed stuff the first time, with this machine. 🤣

😳 Progress......
After washing and using the ATX with the converter, it is finally beginning to show some signs of life.....

After a couple of seconds, it gives two short beeps. No picture on the monitor. 😢

Even more progress.... Finally getting somewere. 😜

I disabled the onboard 5430 chip, and installed my CL-5420 VL-Bus card.
Ran it with the standard ATX psu and the converter cable. BANG..... Picture. Finally, there is life in it again.
There is no need for a propriatary PSU in this machine, as I have hotwired it (green+black) on the converter.
Well... Perhaps there is. The original is smaller in physical size.
