I was wondering if anyone knows how to get ALchemy working with Planescape: Torment.
ALchemy works with most games that I've tried so far (though sometimes there are audio glitches when using a hardware device) but Planescape: Torment doesn't give me the option to enable EAX.

Dropping in IndirectSound enables the option for EAX, but IS only fakes EAX support for compatibility reasons - it doesn't do anything.
Realtek's 3D SoundBack also seems to enable the EAX option, though I never actually tried it to see if it works - I don't have anything connected to my on-board Realtek device and I've heard that their EAX emulation is quite poor. (not even Creative manages to do good emulation of EAX)

The ALchemy log says that it's passing audio to my sound card via OpenAL, the game just doesn't make the EAX option available.
Is there any way to force it on, or a modified DLL/EXE which will let it detect that EAX is available?

Running the latest ALchemy (1.45.10) on Windows 10 x64.
Using the GOG.com version of Planescape: Torment, all patched up and ready for a first play-through if I can get EAX working.

What Sound Blaster are you using?

Some games don't have the "enable EAX" option working, but will work regardless.

It's an X-Fi Titanium HD.
As far as I can tell, EAX isn't being used at all. I turned it up to +12dB in the control panel and I'm not hearing a difference.
Same thing when I tested the software emulation - that usually sounds even more exaggerated.

I see. I don't have this game, but worth testing under XP with a X-Fi and see if not just the game is broken in this matter?

Unfortunately I don't have access to an XP machine to test native compatibility.
However all of the other Infinity Engine games use EAX effects and I've confirmed that Baldur's Gate 2 is working on this system. (and sounds great)

I installed all the Realtek drivers and hooked it up, and I'm not getting EAX effects in any games. It doesn't seem like 3D SoundBack works correctly on Windows 10.
I have to run it in Windows Vista compatibility mode for the configuration tool to even show up, and while that does enable the EAX options in games (including Planescape: Torment) it doesn't actually do anything.
I ran a couple of other EAX games to confirm, and none of the EAX processing is actually being applied - though the global EAX effects in the Realtek Control Panel do work.
So it's not that the EAX effects don't work, it's that 3D SoundBack isn't working.

I was really hoping that, since IndirectSound and 3D SoundBack do at least enable the EAX options in Planescape: Torment - even though they don't actually do anything - that someone might be able to figure out a way to patch the DLL or EXE to enable the EAX option with ALchemy.

ALchemy doesn't usually have to support anything. All that means is that it isn't on Creative's pre-configured list of games.
