As the title says, I'm looking for a significant upgrade to my Radeon HD4670 that takes up one slot and doesn't interfere with the one next to it. Prefer to stick with ATI/AMD because I'm using the open source Linux driver, and hoping to find something that can be had in the $50~$100 range. I'm not sure what to search for; AMD's model numbers confuse me. What's a bargain right now?

For pcie? Radeon HD7750 is great, or whatever the R equivalent is at the moment. R7 250 IIRC, sot sure about the R 300 series equivalent. The Geforce 750ti is an excellent card and can be found in low profile form as well.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

If You are talking about AGP then the HD4670 is as good as it ever got, aside from HD3850.

Atari 2600, TI994a, Vic20, c64, ZX Spectrum 128, Amstrad CPC464, Atari 65XE, Commodore Plus/4, Amiga 500
PC's from XT 8088, 486, Pentium MMX, K6, Athlon, P3, P4, 775, to current Ryzen 5600x.

^^ Nah, PCIe. (I have a 3850 AGP in a P4 HT system and it's a beast - but this is for my "modern" machine.)

See, this is why I said AMD's part numbers are confusing. 😜 Do the Rx cards overlap the HD cards then? Is there a chart somewhere that says what corresponds to what?

Yes they can be quite confusing!! In chronological order:

Radeon HD (from HD2000 to HD7000/8000 series)
Radeon Rx 200 series
Radeon Rx 300 series (current models)
Radeon Rx 400 series (new models being released right now!)

I'm not the best to explain this, but, talking about performance is something like: R5 - R7 - R9 models (from less to more powerful). Yeah, confusing 😎
