great budget cards for there day, but if one costs 8 dollars and an MX400/Banshee/TNT2 costs 10 dollars go for the 10 dollar card 🤣

Got it. I think i will use the V2 SLI with an Nvidia Riva TNT2 Ultra. I might grab an ATi Rage Fury Maxx as well, perhaps I'll use it in a future build. Or I can just swap them out occasionally. This build plan is shaping up nicely!
Thoughts on the Matrox G550?

G550 isn't the greatest Matrox card from the time as some older models were faster, they are ok but not as fast. TNT2 Ultra is a nice classic and one of my favorites.

So the G400 or 450 are better than the G550?

G400 is preferred due to being 128bit, the G550 is a 64bit version of the same general architecture and is cost reduced for business use. The G400 was meant to be a high end gaming card but Matrox was falling behind, you can find some reviews about this.

Like before, the Savage 2000 is a rare card that for its cost and availability, I prefer to collect and not use daily. For the few games I was used to try on the ss7 pc the Savage 4 did its good work with a speed that would be something beetwen the Voodoo2 and the Voodoo3, but still on the K6-2 differences would probably be even less.

For the G400 I had some problem with the mvp3 board, I don't know if known incompatibilities or just not lucky for me.

G450 is slower than the G400 and the G400-Max is faster than the G400.
G550 is faster than the G400-Max according to this:

http://www.philscomputerlab.com/matrox-g200-g … 50-roundup.html

Edit:
Sorry to have forgot this info....
That was in OpenGL, DirextX are a different story. In DX6, the G400 and G400-Max win's over the G550.
My suggestion is to get the G400-Max.

way less considering they didn't even get the features working properly until after S3 was sold, I doubt very much the drivers ever Incorporated 3dnow

I guess I'll steer clear of S3 cards.

Most cards with the K6-2 will have difficult times to show their capabilities. Maybe to be lucky to find (anyone ever see it?) a K6-3+ 550 with fastest ram possible and cache would help a bit. Mine K62+500ACZ has problems @ 550Mhz or maybe is the mainboard not stable who knows.

I will be using the K6-III+.
Now, for the rest of the build.
PSU?

For PSU look for either AT or find an ATX 1.0 PSU thats been recapped or recapp it yourself. ATX 2.0 standard focused on the P4 standard and devoted more power to the 12V than 5V lines.

Ok. I assume I should look to ebay, or is there somewhere better for old computer parts. I will check amibay for all my parts too.

I think the SB16 + Dreamblaster + GUS-ACE are the best for you, if you are going to play games as old as 1991 and up to 1999.
I would strongly recommend that you dualboot with MS-Dos-6.22 if you go for a GUS-ACE.
There are Win95 drivers for GUS, yet a GUS are really a Dos soundcard.

Nothing stopping you from doing (SB16+Goldfinch or AWE32)+GUS ACE+Wavetable DB+Cheap SB Pro card with Waveblaster header (if necessary). You'd just need enough ISA slots, but that shouldn't be a problem in a SS7 build.

My mobo has two ISA slots. I will probably do the SB16 + Dreamblaster X1 + GUS ACE. That way I can also MIDI to an MT-32 or SC-88.

Next comes storage. I assume I should get a Sata hard drive and adapt it to IDE? I will also get an IDE CD drive and a Floppy drive. I should probably also look to the Gotek Floppy emulator.
