That pcp&c power supply is most likely VERY good. The company was top notch until they were bought out by OCZ. I would trust the large single rail units.

Also, that is a very pretty board. I use a dual 711 setup in my garage as an inbetween machine. Its very fast for web, & videos, plus still has enough legacy ports for 5.25 & 3.5 floppies. I just added scsi the other day...

That PCP&C was wearing OCZ tags on it. And it was massive.

I always like dual cpu work stations, Never like the idea of dual cpu's only being for servers. and if your going to bold a high end system you may as well go dual cpu's. But you one upped that with quad gpu's, those are 295's right?

The Mars cards are very hard to come by as most who own them know what they got and they are truly special but if all else you can looking into getting two EVGA red editions. The EVGA Red editions were just standards cards that are Ferrari red and the only real difference was that many had cherry picked components so they could overclock better than normal cards, they even held a 6 week world record in 3D mark. The only catch with the EVGA Red editions is that only 500 were made and most were sold in the states which was good for me as I bought two of them earlier this year.

What CPU coolers do you plan on using? This will be a very interesting build, for sure!

Nice choice. I'm pretty excited to see how well this machine performs, GPU and CPU wise. What drive(s) do you plan on using? RAID-0 Velociraptors were a popular choice in 2008-ish, since SSDs were still a bit flaky.

I've got a pair of 74GB Velociraptors on hand.

Also have a 150GB available that I just retired from my main rig after 8 years of flawless service going from OS to program and then a scratch drive.

May also de-sticker the 295s so they match.

Go for it, they'd look amazing without the mis-matched stickers. On another note, do these cards run cooler than the dual-PCB 295s? I'd imagine they would, since the single board would have less components.

This could be a nonsensical idea, but Intel X25-M SSDs from 2008/2009 are pretty cheap used nowadays, like ~$30 US shipped.

They can run a lot cooler then 2-3c. Problem is that the Tim used is crap. Add that they used way too much.

You can remove the core heat sink without removing the ram/vrm heat sink.
But be careful when removing the heat sink cover. The tabs have a tendency to brake off. If your not over clock or not running hot I'd leave it be.

You have the be careful with olds sdd's. Some older sdd had problems, and with limited wrights you never know how long is left on the drive. And 40$ can get you s new 120gb ssd.

I have no problem doing a once-over on these 295s and getting some new thermal paste on there, but I'll see how they run first.

Also, any idea on how beefy a PSU I'll need for this rig? All the PSUs I have now max out at 750-760W.

Well it's about 125-150w per cpu and 200-250w per video card if I recall the power draw right.

I'd go for a top end 1kw psu if not higher to be safe.
An antec Quattro 1200w makes since for this build. But you might want to play it safe and buy a newer psu.

But Honestly id used that 1200w pcp&c psu. Theyre top end sea sonic units. I had a 910w silencer in a top end 1366 server for a long time. Evan ran grate when the sever room flooded over night and the psu was full of water.
The system some how ran grate all night, even though the psu (at the bottom of the case) was swimming.

And Pcp&c units did not have 80+ on them for a long time. They many made high end server psu for a long time and haveing 80+ and stuff like that on server parts is not typical.

Thats a much better System then the one i using currently as Daily Driver.
