| Ambience | | | X | Displays "Out of sync" message, but it can |

| Luminati | | | X | Same as above. |
| Timeless (56Hz) | X | | | Auto-adjust doesn't center the image well. |

Hopefully the fact that it does display stuff in NTSC-on-VGA and PAL-on-VGA means that it will accept 15kHz signals (e.g. CGA coupled with a simple RGBI to RGB circuit), so I can use it with my XT. Fun thing how it can be coherced to show images after it throws a fit. This monitor has this weird "sidekick" thing with shortcut buttons, and if you set a mode there, and press it, it shows the image where before would only be a black screen with the "out of sync" message. Btw any scaling other than 1:1 caused Ambience and Luminati to display garbage.

Cool stuff guys, thanks for submitting!
As this thread is getting hard to read, I'm thinking of making the 'database' itself into a Wiki site or something and giving forum members who want it edit access. The thread can be for discussion.

Someone wanna recommend a good (free) wiki host I could use? WikiDot?

**EDIT**

I took alexanrs's advice and revised my ratings. Result is 3 so-so LCDs, but my CRTs did rather poorly too. I swapped the vid card with little difference. In my next post I tried my 486/8900C and finally got copper to wobble the CRT, but lost ground elsewhere. These are not easy tests.

Summary:

Viewsonic VP930 19" - Jan 2006 - 5.5 / 15
Benq FP222W 22" - Nov 2006 - 7.5 / 15
Benq FP931 19" - Jan 2005 - 6.5 / 15

CRT - IBM G78 17" - May 2002 - 11 / 15

CRT - IBM G78 17" - May 2002 - 9.5 / 15

I think you were too harsh on your screens, pewpewpew. I'd move many of your "fails" to "conditional fails". I don't consider aspect ratio mismatches fails, for example, because the image is there, only with a minor issue. This is the problem with these kinds of databases, though, as different testers might have different criteria to classify something as a failure.

You are right of course, it says exactly that in the template.txt. I was going snowblind on the second pass, and started rejecting on "would this be acceptable for a game?"

**EDIT**
Tried new hardware after kinda poor results with the Pentium above. Finally got wobble on CRT at least, but lost ground elsewhere. Also Cubic was stable. On the P1 it kept locking up, sometimes before I could check 132x43.

**EDIT 2**
Added LG L1730S - it's not good enough for a new post, so let's just append it here for whoever might run Search someday.

^^ I get the same yellow bar in Dowhackado on my Virge DX. That's a video card problem unfortunately.

Hi there,
my first post here and my report for my relatively old Samsung monitor:

Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster B2230 (TN)
Native res: 1920x1080
Scaling: Nearest neighbour
Aspect rto: Wide or auto (4:3 works fine)
Machine: Pentium III 700MHz, MS-DOS 6.22
Video card: NVidia Riva TNT2 Pro 32MB
UniVBE: no
Tested by: Bayger

OVERALL COMPATIBILITY RATING:

| Ambience | | | X | Works @ 82Hz (see notes) |
| Luminati | | | X | Works @ 82Hz (see notes) |

Notes: - For Ambience and Luminati you need to push down arrow several times to
lower refresh rate to 82 Hz. The image flickers but is almost okay.
- Monitor switches between video modes in 1-2 seconds which is IMHO quick.
- Text is very sharp and auto adjust feature works quite good (you'll
need full screen of text like when using Dos Navigator)
- Other tweak modes mostly work with occassional cropping
- As a bonus you can tweak viewing angles of TN matrix in OSD

EDIT: Updated info on Ambience and Luminati.

You are aware that stability of the Copper wobbling effects also depend on the video card?

Copper is notoriously playing around the limits of VGA compatibility. At pouet someone said that it ONLY works perfectly with one specific revision of the Tseng ET4000 VGA and nothing else. Yet the authors dare to write in the info file that if your VGA is so shite it isn't compatible it's not their problem. Conceited bastards and sloppy coders.

I want to like this monitor. It is a beautiful 4:3 display with awesome scaling options. However, compatibility where it matters (non-bonus) is not very good. This monitor also frameskips above 60hz!!! This is most likely due to the IPS display. It is NOT a good choice for a DOS computer.

Just to describe how bad compatibility is, Commander Keen 4 does not display at all.

I've had this monitor since 2004. It is a great DOS gaming monitor with no frameskipping (TN display). It has some quirks, but overall a good option.

Okay, so after seeing the post on the AGN PRO 19" at the beginning of this thread, I looked around for one and found that they are no longer manufactured. Apparently the SC-19AH is its successor (also now EOL). I am not sure how much this monitor shares with its older brother, but I am guessing corners were cut. Yes it does the Copper wobble, and it switches modes amazingly fast, but it is still a terrible monitor. The interpolation is like viewing through a bad set of glasses. It also frameskips above 60hz!!! Frameskipping is a deal killer for me since every dos mode is 70 to 75hz. It's getting sent back.

The search for the perfect DOS LCD monitor continues. I am thinking maybe a Samsung 204B or 214T might be a sweet spot.

I'm using a weird combo of NT68676-based LVDS controller board (featuring VGA, DVI and HDMI with audio inputs) and a couple of spare LCD panels as my second monitor, so I decided to test this one through the suite.

So, I plugged a Samsung LTM220M1 LCD panel (22" 1680x1050 TN), then flashed the controller with appropriate firmware from this archive recieved from board' seller (there are older firmwares from 2011 floating around on the internet, you can google them by yourself, albeit they're worse in terms of features 😉)

nxNSRHgl.jpg
that's pretty hardcore assembly though 🤣

Monitor: NT68676 LVDS controller + Samsung LTM220M1 LCD panel, firmware V 2.20
Native res: 1680x1050
Scaling: interpolated
Aspect rto: 16:10 or 4:3
Machine: P200MMX/ASUS TXP4/i430TX/128MB/Vibra16/40GB+SD-IDE/Win98SE+DOS7.1

is very dependent on LCD panel and image scaling is terrible

Speaking of picture quality, it is pretty crisp in 640x480, 720x400 textmode and even 320x200 (by the way, this panel had exactly the same aspect ratio as 320x200 have, though many games are expecting it to be stretched to 4:3, and for that (and others) case you can swith the aspect to 4:3 or back to native panel ratio). However, when it comes to 132x25 textmodes, 360x480, 640x350 POST screens, the scaling algorithm miss pixels, resulting in ugly and jammed fonts, abrupt lines, etc.

As expected, Copper' wobble blacks out screen, Ambience/Luminaty showing "out of range", but when it comes for Kukoo2, it displays nothing more than this:
EepH1DTh.jpg
which looks like LCD panel freezing (due to incompatible timings or whatever), so it can't generate proper timings for display output and liquid crystals are going nuts (yes, this state can potentially hurt your monitor, as luquid crystals must've been driven by AC voltage with half of vertical frame rate frequency); I remember Kukoo 2 running just fine using the same controller but with M236H1-L01 panel (23.6" FullHD, also TN). Using other graphics cards in that case gives no results, panel still freezes and doesn't show anything sensible.

On the other head, almost all of Tweak bundled modes are working correctly, except for 400x300 (while 400x600 works but a bit messed up, I guess it's the videocard issue)
mQI58PJl.jpg
C2zzBAVl.jpg
(also as you can see i haven't loaded S3VBEFIX just to show you how incorrect FIFO setting left by BIOS affecting 360-wide modes 😀)

Overall, this controller is pretty solid in most modes, and also suitable for second\third "just-connect-that-PC-so-I-can-check-it" monitor. It does display 70 and 75Hz modes without frame skipping, by the way; this also applies to 1680x1050 @ 75hz (and i've used it with M236H1-L01 at 1920x1080 @ 75Hz via DVI and HDMI and haven't notices any issues or image degradation or frameskips, you just need to use CRU and edit the firmware to replace original EDID with 75hz patched one)
