Dear Vogons,

Getting tired of all this eBay crap... e.g. something way overpriced is listed as... "as is". For self entertainment and possibility to negotiate I probe...

Me, (not that I would pay this anyway): -

"Hi there,
If this does not work... can I return it?
I would not feel very good if I buy for $150, if it does not work. 🙁
Thanks"

Response: -

"You really took me by surprise )))))
Actually i have no intention to sell, just wanted to use as advertisement.
I can check this weekend.
My experience says that if pins are OK and no signs of overheating then 99% chance that CPU fully functional - so maybe you should search for not tested ones for better price.

If you still want this - i can test it before shipping.
Return also possible - but buyer pays shipping."

This crap is days after waiting weeks for another different seller to send me an invoice which never came. I couldn't pay in the end, nothing happened and it got cancelled. Worst is, eBay would not even let me leave feedback.

In all the time I use eBay I've never seen this crap so much. I just wish sellers sell the damn stuff... instead of listing it, then it's not for sale or maybe for sale, then not sending invoices rendering it, definitely not for sale... waste of fucking time!

Well... it's good to get that out, I feel much better now.

Thanks!

Yesterday I won an ebay auction for a motherboard. The final price was $5 plus $15 dollars shipping. I got an e-mail the same say saying something to the effect of. "Sorry $5 is not enough I will refund your money don't worriez."

Thankfully it was something I bid on on a whim and not really something I really need, otherwise I'd be really pissed.

Since when was winning an auction no longer a binding agreement?

It is a binding agreement. That price should have been honored. You could report it, but only like you said, if you cared enough to bother.

It's legally binding, but in practice enforcing it is on you. Doubtful eBay is going to do anything more than issue an infraction, perhaps get the seller's account banned from listing items. Which means something only if the seller's account is worth keeping.

As I said in another forum, these days eBay only really cares for big stores with fixed prices, lot of products and movement, ala AliBaba; auctions are there for tradition more than anything else, so they don't really bother to make things work well... and yes, as there's not real control both sellers and buyers are going worse everyday.

I buy eBay stuff all the time. From small and big sellers. Have not had that many issues so far this year.

I do review sellers though: # of sales / positive feedback %.

As a seller I sometimes make mistakes and then cancel a transaction to avoid the "not as described" risk. As a buyer I can also appreciate it does not make sense to sell stuff for super low amounts and do not mind a cancellation once in a while.
