Any info on this motherboard would be most helpful.

Like what is its form factor?
Is that 72 pin Simms?
What's the two big socketed chips nere the bottom?
What gateway did it come out of? If I recall alr being made or used by Gateway

And yes I see that battery damage. Was sold to me as being 100% clean an working. If not I'll ether fix it or open an PayPal case.

wow, that's a lot of green fuzz...

Special - maybe an E-atx case would work with some mods?
most likely
The two big sockets are for 2 intel pentium processors....
Its not gateway imho, its from a company called ALR, makers of the nefarious 6-way pentium pro behemoth: http://www.monitor.at/497/story/alr.htm

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Definitely a "custom big server form factor" - I've seen a few with similar layout, generally each generation had different standoff configurations, though!

Looks like 72-pin SIMMs to me (nasty ones.)

No, not the cpu sockets, the ones below the bios chip. One is labeled ifm/shm
And I have read in the past that alr was part of gateway and or found there way into gateways.

I know, i was being an ass.

$5 says it is the firmware required for EISA. and the larger one is probably a micro-controller for the nearby front panel lcd.

Front panel lcd? This could get interesting if I bound a system with it. I was just going to bench it. Not many dual sk7 boards out there and even less subs on hwbot with dual sk7 setups.

I never seen many dual Socket 7s out there either, maybe only a single one and iirc it had both CPUs on a separate board together.

I don't know if you will be able to bench it, it seems to have a large amount of battery goo covering the top SIMM slots.

Did ALR also make the Intel-branded motherboard of the time till some time later? Because the board somehow looks very reminiscent to Intel's boards from Slot 1 to s478.

It was sold to me as being 100% clean and working.
So long as no traces are gone it should be good after a cleaning. That or I'll open a paypal case.
Most of it looks like the solfter lose kind.

Seller told me that he did not see any corrosion. 😕

This might not end well. 😠

Well at least you were told it was working.

I hope you do get it working. Have you managed to clean up the board?

It's in the mail.

Seller sounds like a scumm ball now that I brought it up.
The guy must be blind or a scammer. I would not have bought it if eBay did not downgrade the photos on there mobile site.

Well...looking at the pic of the conversation you posted, to me it seems like the seller knew.
Or he flatout lies or is, as you already said, a scumball.

Nor do I. I just wished I looked at the photos in ebays desktop site before buying.
I'll probably clean it up and fix it. Be nice if it had 512kb of l2. But it has 265k of l2 witch is good!

D4 is not worth fixing. It's just an led anyway.
Funny thing, the ebay message photo I post is the last thing I said to him. Now the seller is blowing up my inbox saying that he needs the board back. Tossed a few F bombs and is going on about how he was not supposed to sell it... I never said a word after what I said on that photo...

Yeah scum ball for sure. But I returned the favor. I just opened a NAD case in PayPal and filled the report out in such away the it will stay open for a long time before being closed. I did not lie or anything and if PayPal refundes me I'll send the money back or close the case if I'm asked to ship it back.

Yeah I basically I put his money on hold for a month for lieing to me and dropping f bombs and blowing up my inbox. I wasn't even going to say a word to him and go about my day.

Anyway I have the board about 90% cleaned up. Will hit it with rubbing alcohol next.

Yeah eBay has gotten bad lately.
He said all that caps were good too, but I found one thats cracked.
I have about 99% of the crap off the board now. After that I'll start to fix what's bad. D4 needs fixed and I found a bad cap. Looks like a few other things are missing too.

I think it's cool and somewhat admirable that you're actually trying to revive it, I can imagine you being very disappointed by this (and rightfully so if you ask me).

I hope you get it fixed, it is an interesting board indeed!
