Hi Vogons,

Longtime lurker, first time poster here.
I'm bringing my old dos midi sequencer, - "Voyetra sequencer plus gold" back to life.
Could anyone suggest how to proceed ....

Everything is working except, the midi (MPU-401) part of the sound card.

Diagnose.exe, gets as far as the Mpu-401 midi port setting,
the options are 300h or 330h
both give an error suggesting the port address is already in use.

I've disabled the pc onboard sound in the bios, and the serial ports.

btw
the machine is dos 6.2 (with a separate partition of linux for maintaing dos)
the card is a creative ct2980
and I've installed the vibra16 drivers from the driver library here, thank you.

any suggestions are welcome 😀

Load CTCU (Creative Technologies Configuration Utility) and confirm that port 330h has been reserved/allocated.
Also, make sure the game port is disabled in the BIOS (not just the onboard sound).

Thanks Jesolo,
the game port in ctcu has i/o range 200-207 reserved with no other option available
also there is no game port option in the bios

disabling ide in ctcu frees up port 300, which is then available to diagnose.exe
so thats a start ?

Do you have a network card at port 300h ?
Is ACPI enabled (both may use IRQ9) ?

Hi Jo22,

just checked the bios and there is no ACPI, its a Dell from 1999/2000 (gL-1)
and I previously removed the network card, with no reference to it in the autoexec.bat or config.sys.

the sound card is working to an extent now.
It passes all the Diagnose tests, Irq , base address , etc But it still not doing the function I need, which is passing midi information through the joysick port.

It's frustrating because I used to be able to make it happen, back in the day.

I'm hoping its not something obvious
