Maybe we could have like weekly session with old game of choice.

Last night was really fun though 😁
I got kicked around very badly by Jade Falcon 🤣

Me too. JF and Draconihil were lighting me up. Then I logged in when it was only one bot named Archon and I thought it was a person. 😊 They beat me pretty badly too. Something like 30-16. Super fun, thanks JF for making the server.

Believe it or not I'm not the best DM player, and the high gamespeed was throwing me off alot.

I lowered the game speed back to 130%
I used to play on those monster hunt servers and they typical ran at higher speeds, I got used to it.
If 130 is to fast I'll lower it too.

No wonder I had so much trouble hitting stuff. I never raised the game speed, preferring to raise bot skill level instead.

I never even played any of these levels either, so most of the time I don't even know where I'm going or where which weapons are.

Oh that explains it I guess, I personally would keep it at 100% normal with Hardcore enabled. Not sure how in the world one gets used to rapid speeds like that though... Mouse input in UT99 is pretty unreliable. Hardcore also very slightly increases the TimeDilation variable but not that much. Turbo mode will increase everyone's movement speed without increasing the overall gamespeed.

I only handled high speed with instagib on in the UT 348 demo days but haven't bothered with it since.

I used to play on those monsters hunt servers a lot.
Nothing like 200% game speed and 100s if not 1000s of enemies to get you used to the higher game speeds.
I have it at 120 now. I'll leave it there.

150% (or whatever your Original speed was) was WAY too fast 🤣!
We're old grumpy men, please give us some slack 🙁

But 100% felt way too slow, 110% was slow too. 120% should feel about right 😀.

I tested my own game server (I've once hosted modded UT2004 servers in a long forgotten past 🤣) and lag will be a problem for anyone joining a cross-continent server using accuracy weapons like a sniper rifle.

Not to play the blame game, but I had about 200-250ms pings your server and you had 170-180ms pings on my server.
I had very little lag on my end wile playing on your server. Are you sure it's just on my end? 200ms tens to be the cut off were lag starts to be seen.

Anyway I'll be working on speeding up my network as much as I can, I'm going to order a new much needed modem this week and run a cat7 drop to the server and stop using power lines in place of Ethernet cable. when done your pings should drop by about 20ms. I hope I can get most people in Europe around 150ms.

Just FYI it takes about 30ms to ping my router from my server, not good.

I thought the gameplay was pretty smooth considering your powerline ethernet (yeah, I'm in the US with you). But 30ms to router is a little rough. I'm guessing you've got a static IP from your ISP? Just know that you're providing a great service to Vogoners and you are under no obligation to spend money to improve pings. Your efforts are really appreciated.

No static, but If I keep the same mac address on the router it will stay the same for at least 6 months.
I also had planned to over hall my home network before I started the UT99 server. So no big deal.

I'll be getting a new modem, move the modem so its only behind on cable splitter, get a better main cable splitter, shorting the cable going to the modem and the cable going to the modem to the router. That and run a CAt7 drop to my server.

The only thing I did not plain was the cat7 drop. But given my love for old CRT's and what not I may as well run a cat7 drop. And the power line setup sucks. 😵

So far I moved the power line adapter from a serge strip to the wall and crimped a better cat5 cable. That should lower pings by about 0-1ms. Free and quick. 😀

Next I'll move the modem so its only behind one cable splitter and the power line adapter will be on the same circuit/breaker.
Also free and easy. No clue how much that will help. Maybe 0-2ms?

The new modem should drop off about 0-10ms. The old one is on its way out anyway.

No clue what the new main cable splitter will do, its really old and hardly handles one HD set top box and the internet. That bugger is probably why I have so many network drops when our TV is on.

EDIT
If anything all this will make the setup more stable and prevent packet loss and stop network drops. If i'm lucky removing all the old cheap cat5 for cat7 and gitting rid of the power line crap along with the old splitter will lower pings around 20ms. If I'm lucky.

I have seen pings go crazy when our TV is on so a new main splitter will help a lot. Preventing packet loss can go along ways.

Mine used to be that way too, but it seems that in the past 6 months my ISP has been changing IPs on me every time I reboot my router. I run a linux-based firewall distro and they update the kernel at least a few times a year, as well as other security and feature updates, so I'm probably rebooting it once every couple of months on average. So I use dyndns.

I'll be using my own modem and router so my ISP cant mess with it. 😈

I use my own modem and router too. But my ISP is very liberal with their DHCP lease time in my area.

Better to use Enemy Territory, it is free. But maybe the game is not dead enough yet for Vogons.
