Glidos can make fixed 640x480 game run at 1280x1024, so Voodoo owners do use Glidos.

RB3D already runs in 1280x1024 on voodoo cards with "Glide" selected in the preferences. At least I think thats true for all voodoo cards. Definitely works in 1280x1024 on my voodoo 3000 using glide.

Now if you could get it running in 2400 x 600 that might be real interesting in a Parhelia sort of way. 😁 😁 😁

Oh, you might have meant other games. I didn't think of that, guess i'm kind of one track(RB3D) minded. 😉

Well, yeah. You need to administer this forum, dude! (hehe) I'm not gonna do it for you. (hehe^2) Encourage people to make new threads, 'n' junk.

That suits me fine. I want this to be a place where people can relax a bit; if I see a problem I'll administer to it, but I haven't seen one yet... although I do see that threads like this one could have gained from a bit of separation.

Hi,

Can't get Glidos to run RB without locking up my computer. When I fire a mission up, everything looks great for approximately 30 seconds. Then the graphics and sound freeze, and I have to perform a hard reset. My apologies if this is already a known issue, but I coudn't find any information on the 9700 in these forums. I have no such issues with any other sim/game I own.

TIA,
Jam

Hello.

Today I downloaded the Glide Wrapper Glide2x.dll and the configuration file OpenGLid.ini so I could once again the full visual gloryof RB3D. Since I got my off-the-shelf Dell Dimension 8200 for Christmas, RB3D has lost that crisp look.

When I fired up the game after installing the above files (after backing up the originals) I was shocked to see RB3D looking so good again! At last!

However, a slight problem. Although the game looks visually excellent, there is absolutely no sound of any kind. I am not computer savvy, and my troubleshooting consisited of different settings within RB3D--nothing. So, I got rid of the new files and went back to the old files--still nothing! So, I uninstalled the game, then reinstalled.

Once installed, I flew around--full sound, including effects and music. Next, I backed up the original files and installed the two new files. Same result! No sound. Again, I got rid of the new files and went back to the old files, and the sound was still gone.
Since then, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game again, which is playable in direct draw only. I have not installed the two Glidos files.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated! Remember to please "dumb it down"--I'm pretty much a computer moron. I think this Glidos is awesome and I am excited to again play my multi-year campaigns in RB3D, but I can't do that with no sound! 🙁

Thank you very much for your time.

Never seen these problems before. I don't think its a fault with OpenGLide (that's what you are using, not Glidos). It sounds like an audio or video driver problem. See if you can find some more up to date drivers for your sound card and video card.

Nothing to do with the two problems reported here, but I've just uploaded a new version.

The previous version suffered from a small drop in frame rate during sun glare and bleeding. This new version cures that problem.

Oops, I'm not being very clear: it is a new version of OpenGlide for use with Red Baron, not a new version of Glidos.

Note, there is now an OpenGLide forum on this site; feedback should go to there.

Ok. Thanks for your help, and I'm sorry I was in the wrong area here!

Don't be sorry. We're here to help you, even if it's not a problem exactly specific to the forum you post in.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Hi JFM, try looking at http://www.wings-of-valor.org in the files section. I think there is a document about getting RB3D to function properly with XP. I think the answer is something about making rbprefs.dat into a read only file(easy by right clicking it and changing its properties), but check for the exact explanation/order to do it in at WoV.

My, oh, my....

That's what it was! I followed your link, saw the doc, and that was that. Now I have the Glide graphics AND sound!

Thank you everyone for being so helpful! I am going to turn several people onto this place.

😎

Seconded. We just suggest ways to post that should help others to find things, but it doesn't matter if a few posts are not quite in the best place.

The graphics are included in the new Promised Land Superpatch released yesterday. Unfortunately it is currently unavailable as two hosts already reached their bandwidth limits.

I've just released a new version.

Someone had reported a problem with the previous release and I've located and fixed a potential cause.

Red Baron now seems to run at an acceptable speed even with the Texture memory set down to 2MB. That setting had beed quoted as a fix for the RB texture corruptions and might be worth a try, although the speed is better with higher settings.

Great work Glidos!

I've nailed the 9700 problems down: OpenGlide is incompatible with the card's FSAA (it locks up), and having Aniso enabled slows the game down to a crawl. Running with both these disabled works like a charm, but I bought this card to play every sim/game I own at max IQ settings. This is the only appllication I have a problem with, but I woudn't be surprised if it's an ATI driver bug.

Any ideas?
