Bought a gtx560 ti for my second racing rig. Isn't exactly retro....
Found an ict recycling company in my own city, never knew it was there..... 😵 They were selling a xeon 3440 (s1156 and is the same as i7) for only 20 euro so i picked it up.
Boy.... was i in hardware heaven! It really is a shame to see THAT much hardware beeing destroyed but they get TONS every single day. Even i7 systems.....it is mind blowing what people and corperations throw away here.
Any way, i went trough big piles of stuff and most was completely destroyed or simply not interesting for me. I did buy 2 Asus P2B boards and an Asus p55t2p4 and also a 5x86-133 AMD cpu and a 100GP Cyrix. Paid 20 euro for these 5 items, and 20 euro for the xeon/i7.
Cyrix and AMD had a lot of bend pins but i straightened them and they both work (victory!)
I forgot that they take out every single loose chip so my boards came without a bios..... Took 2 bios chips from boards i don't care about and hotflashed them by using a bios from my own P2B board and they work flawlessly! (victory again!). One has some light damaged battery holder that i will replace.
P55T2P4 did not work. I thought it looked still ok but when i got home it wasn't only missing the bios chip but also some transistors/regulators? They removed them with pliers for the aluminium and damaged some tiny smd stuff as well. So that one will go back the next time i'm there.
Xeon was bought as working and works also fine.
Still a very good score i think and it is nice that i found them.
Now i will study my 3dfx cards so i can identify them without coolers 😎 (they remove all coolers, heatsinks and backplates so it is HARD to recognise graphics cards)
