Hello...
I'm playing Tomb Raider with Glidos and, even though I can select different resolutions with the Adjust button, it repeatedly uses 640x480. I'm using win2k with an ati radeon 7500 agp. Is this just not a fully-supported feature or am I doing something incorrectly?

Same problem here!

Glidos lets you adjust resolution parameters for Tomb Raider but no matter what you choose, you always play at 640x480...Would be nice to add an option to change refresh rate. I don't know why we should get stuck to 60 Hz...

The information box in glidos ALWAYS reports 640x480 on start-up no matter what resolution you actually run glidos at .
why this is I do not know , but i know that it is not accurately reporting the actual resolution being used .

To test if this is your problem set your desktop res to , for instance 1024x768 start glidos hit adjust and uncheck the 'full screen' box ( we want to run in a window ) and set TR to run at 800x600 .

if it happens for you like it does for me then glidos will initially 'report' 640x 480 , but actually run a window at 800x600 ( if it is running at 640 the window will be only 1/2 the destop res whereas 800 should take up about 2/3 of the screen )

I ( and you should be able to too ) run @ 1600x1200 and everytime I start glidos the little windows says '640x480' but I still get 1600x1200
hope that helps

Glidos is reporting accurately about it, because this is the resolution,
tomb raider thinks, it's running in. The 3DFX version was limited to 640x480, so glidos has to fool it about this.

I guess that does work and there is a noticable quality difference between 640x480 and 1280x1024 in full screen.

I tried loading different resolutions (up to 1024 due to monitor) in a window and I must say it's true that the window size changes accordingly...What I feel though is that the actual quality of the image doesn't improve at all...The bigger window just seem to stretch it. When I use 640x480 it even looks better since the image is smaller. When I play full screen, all images look the same despite what resolution you choose...This is my experience.

Interesting , but the Original textures and things will not get any clearer at higher resolutions . The most noticeable difference is in the 'anti-aliasing' qualities of the large resolutions .

You should notice that the higher resolutions produce much smoother edges on the character models ( most noteably LAra ) and other edge type tid bitsin the same way that running AA ( anti aliasing ) will on the lower resolutions .

using an older ATI card ( 9000 ) the images looks very smooth and clean if I run it at 640x480 with at least 4x AA , but the image quality is superior if I run with aa off at a resolution of 1600x1200 .

Try downloading gambits texture pak ( http://www.resonantedge.com/trx/?p=download ) and running at a couple of test resolutions using the new textures . Higher resoutions should produce more clarity and less moire' and other low res pattern distortions.

if this doesn't work you have some other weirdness , like possibly glidos not being able to load and runnign soem default vesa mode .In one of the other threads Paul ( Mr. Glidos) describes what to check for if this is the case .

Thank you very much for your interesting infos. It must be a limitations of the original image not benefitting of a higher resolution. It is in fact the same when I play Nintendo64 Emulators. Due to its original resolution, the actual image doesn't looke much different if I play any game 640x480 or 1280x1024...

The edges of objects should look sharper, and the textures of objects in the far distance should look very much clearer. Also, you should notice a really big difference if you use the new texture packs.

Maybe you need a new monitor. 🤣
