I eventually picked ascot over long tie this morning, and it wasn't a bad decision. Like, it's less constricting than long tie, making it more comfortable. And the look isn't bad either. In fact, it blends nicely with my usual stuff: navy blue blazer, oxford shirt, and boater shoes. Totally. I'm pretty much conservative about fashion, and very rarely change my style. But this time, I think I'm making a permanent move to ascot tie, for sure.
By the way, that was me on the picture below, at home, right before going to the wedding. Pardon the large tummy though, I've been gaining extra weight since my avatar pic taken about eight years ago.

An ex-girlfriend of mine remarked through WA that she likes it. The ascot doesn't ruin my usual 'timeless classic' look despite being less formal. We share the same taste, by the way, so I still ask her for fashion advice sometimes.

I would say an Ascot is less conservative but equally formal.
I tend to be quite conservative about fashion, but it turned out ascot tie is fine.

But i guess if it's you're brother, and he wears one, then i can imagine that you want to wear one to.
Oh, my brother cares less about fashion than I do; he wore suit jacket and a trucker's hat during the wedding! 🤣 Luckily he has very understanding wife.

Mandarin collar is very popular here among us Muslims in Indonesia. It's called baju koko, and I would have tried it years ago if not for my tendency to stay looking the same over and over again. I didn't even remember the last time I bought a pair shoes which is not boater, or a jacket which is not navy! 🤣

Ah, the no-tie movement, no?
Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....
