I recently got a hold of some Rich Music Format (RMF) audio files from the web. Now, the only application I know of that plays RMF files is Java Sound Demo. I have a Windows 98 computer and have tried to play the format, but won't play. I remember using that same program on Windows 95 and it worked. Does anyone familiar with the RMF format know any other software that plays RMF's? My sound card is the AWE64 Gold. Maybe one of the associated software can play them?

I know it's many years later, so I don't know if you'll see this, but someone might

https://github.com/zefie/BeatnikProject2019 is capable of playing .rmf files, it works well with WebTV .rmfs.

It uses what looks like Beatnik's original ActiveX control internally, and thus has some usage limitations (it needs a specific file in C:\Windows, and can't easily be ported to non-Windows systems)

For Java Sound, it's possible that it relies on an older version of the JVM. I found a note saying that RMF support was removed in 7, but I had tried on 6 and that didn't work either, hmm.

EDIT: This old and insecure version of the Java Runtime allows the JavaSoundDemo to play .rmf files: https://archive.org/details/tucows_194327_Jav … ime_Environment . I note besides the reliance on an obsolete JRE, it doesn't have support for switching banks. It also seems to be important to install "Additional Font and Media Support", otherwise it sounds rather lousy.
