When I was trying to install some video drivers on windows 95 on 86box, I got this. I don't get it, there is no other device I am trying to install. All I saw was a new hardware installing message which was a PCI IDE controller. Is there a way to get over this problem?

If you use this emulator before and installed some video drivers please leave your response.

Thank you.

Did you install any graphics drivers or did you change the graphics adapter during installation ?
Without any details it's hard to figure out.. 😅

Perhaps this will help: If there are two graphics devices, delete one of them..
- Usually the one that's causing trouble (any yellow marks in device manager ?)

If that doesn't help, remove the correct-named adapter and apply its driver to the generic VGA device.
Sorry, I'm not good at explaining things. 😅

What I found what was conflicting with the device is the System extension board for PNP bios I removed in from the system and rested my VM but when everytime I boot up my windows 95 VM it installs back again.

I am using a nvidia riva 128 on 86box which Battler got working on that emulator.

don't use that for native drivers at the moment, it's still a WIP.

What does WIP mean?
Edit: I know "work in progress."

I tried other video cards like S3 Virge/DX but I still got the same problem.

I think it's because the Virge, there, is using IRQ 3.

When using the Virge or the Nvidia cards, make sure to disable COM 2 (and that COM 1 is not by any chance set to IRQ 3).

Thank you, also is the Nvidia cards on 86box any good now since PCem v12's release?

How would PCem releasing a new stable release magically improve Nvidia emulation on 86Box?

First off, it's not even close to working yet, secondly, I'm the main author, not Battler.

Okay, it's been a while since I ran Win95 on modern hardware (which means 486 and up), so please forgive me that (probably) silly question..:
Does Windows 95 support Intel 430x/440 chipsets out-of-the-box ? Are no *.inf files required ?

I'm asking, because I found this Patch for Windows 95 (from shuttle).

And may I ask why you are prefering Win95 over Win98 ?
No offense, I'm simply curious. 😀

Btw, also found a chart which shows that 430VX is supported out-of-the-box from Win98 onwards:
https://eu-rma.asus.com/support/FAQ/faq005_inf_update1.htm
(No idea, if that does refer solely to the IDE controller but also the rest of the system.)

Hi, how's it going ? Any progress ? I hope I didn't say something wrong - it's been quiet here since about 10 day now. 😅
