Is there a tool or a way to get SSAA with Radeon cards (9550) under Windows 98?

Isn't it default (FSAA = SSAA in old games), if game doesn't support MSAA ?
I think you know, but doing SSAA on Radeon 9550 will instant kill playable FPS (depending on game and VRAM configuration).

Q : Why not use high resolution monitor (one with 1600:1200 support), and use it to simulate 800x600 FSAA 4x performance ?

PS. Radeons 9550 are great OC'ers, they can do Radeon 9600 clocks usually (Omega drivers are needed, unless you mod BIOS direcly).

That's a shame, but thanks for the confirmation!

1600 x 1200 isn't demanding enough for some older games. They run at 200 or 300 FPS at 1024 x 768.

There is a tool, which can force 4x OGSSAA for some games, but it requires at least Windows 2000 and it's only in an alpha status.
Don't expect it to work with every game, especially not with older than directx8. Never tried it myself.

DirectX Tweaker http://alt.3dcenter.org/downloads/directx-tweaker.php

Features:
- 4x OGSSAA
- Alphatest Anti Aliasing (even before Ati officially supported it)
- post filters
- and more

Compatibility:
- DX 9.0 applications
- DX 8.0 and 8.1 applications (not fully supported)
- DX 7 application (experimental)

Requires:
- Windows 2000 / XP / 2003
- DirectX 9.0c
- .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=26
- The system time must be set to somewhere around may or august 2005. On some point it won't work and you would need to set the time back.

Note: The maximum game resolution with 4x OGSSAA depends on the graphic cards maximum internal resolution.
Radeon 9700 (R300) --> 1024x768 (max. 2048x2048 without SSAA)
Radeon X800 (R420) --> 1024x768 (max. 2048x2048 without SSAA)
Radeon X1800 (R520) --> 2048x1536 (max. 4096x4096 without SSAA)
Radeon X1900 (R580) --> 2048x1536 (max. 4096x4096 without SSAA)

For modern systems there is, besides the official AMD & Nvidia downsampling modes, the tool GeDoSaTo http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?page_id=582
