I have a box full of old CDs and some floppies that came with various hardware I purchased. I guess it spans the period between 1996 and 2016, with most of it being from the late 1990s, early 2000s. The CDs contain drivers, manuals, utilities and sometimes additional software (trial, promotional, in rare cases full versions).

A lot of it is probably generic / has little value, but some things may be interesting / not available online, so I was wondering:

  1. How to sort through all this and determine what has value and what does not?
  2. Is there a good place to upload the stuff that may be valuable? Vogonsdrivers.com perhaps? Something else?
  3. How to actually upload? Obviously creating full images of CDs is easiest for me, but for folks convenience it may be better if stuff was sorted out first.

Basically, trying to see if anything I have will be useful for the community, and if so - how to properly share it. Some of it is full-edition software with CD keys, so probably cannot be shared openly, but most should be OK.

Here is a list of the items that I currently found (there may be more, newer things, but I think that the older things are more likely to be useful):

I've been wondering about this very question myself for a longer while now. I've got plenty driver disks and other stuff which someone else may be looking for.

One issue is that I don't really know what is actually wanted or looked after and what is a waste of time to upload.

There is Vogons Drivers btw.

Image them and upload the images to archive.org's software library.

What yawetaG said, make ISOs of them and make a free account with archive.org, upload them. Pretty easy.

There are also a couple of collections like these

Betaarchive used to be fairly strict when it came to what one could upload and it was mostly OS's. I haven't been on there for a long while now, but I did upload a few harder to find things over there (no idea if it's still there or has been deleted though).

I'd need to find (lots of!) spare time for this 🤣, my driver disks are kinda spread across err...multiple places 😵

cdinstall seems spot on. Thanks for the advice, folks; that's exactly what I was looking for.

But yeah, it would take a lot of spare time. My disks are spread across (only!) two homes, but still, imaging each would take time, especially to do it properly, including a photo of the disk, like most of the entries there seem to have.

I will eventually get around to it, but probably not soon. In the meanwhile, if some particular item on my list is of interest to you, or you think it may be of value to add to vogonsdrivers, just ask.
