I was browsing through the spec sheet for the Intel 386DX and came across this image in the back (attached). It shows a ZIF socket for a 386 chip (PGA-132) made by AMP. Has anyone ever come across one of this installed in a 386 board? If so, which? Photo evidence?

Oldest ZIF socket I ever came across was Socket 1 I believe (486 ISA-only board), but never seen anything ZIF for 386.

No pics as I was doubting and decided not to take that board (kinda regretted that decision the next day even).

Very interesting find though! AMP had been busy it seems.

I've only ever seen them on Japanese PC98 type computers. I'd love to have one on a standard 386 board though.

Where here is proof that they were actually produced and used. It can be yours for only $125 USD. Of course you will have to repurpose it.

Here are some individual ones for sale on eBay. They are NOT cheap, especially if you don't live in the USA. Shipping is more than the unit.

I really cannot justify the $55 USD expense.

Maybe are there updates in this topic? Could you give name of this device with soldered zif socket?

I see nice sockets from Yamaichi (15x15) but price is way too high
