Back on page 872 I mentioned the MT-32 I got, then posted photos of V2 SLI, V5, V3 3500TV, and Voodoo TV 200. Here's my pride and joy from the group, a like-new MT-32 (Old):

Of course, I had to go through and listen to all my MT-32 supporting games on it first. Now I'm playing World of Xeen, which I'm close to finishing. Apparently this game sounds best on a CM-32L, but still sounds pretty good on this baby.

I'll be honest, I've gotten so used to FM music on my Audician 32 Plus, and in many of my games, I like the FM music as much, more, or just slightly less than the MT-32 version. But some games are so much better on the MT-32 (Wing Commander 1-2, Ultima VII Pt1-2, Underworld 1-2, 1942: PAW, Aces and Red Baron to name a few), and the nostalgia factor puts it so far over the top that it's a no-brainer to use it whenever possible. 😊

If no buyout and the auction has decent exposure, I'm guessing a lone GF256 DDR to go for around $100. More than a V3 (unless PCI or Quantum3D) and TNT2U.

Good to see you got it up and running. It really is a special experience trying out known DOS games and listening to how they sound on the Roland.

Well worth checking out is anything from Sierra and Dynamix.

That's bull. A Geforce 256 isn't worth that much "yet" , dunno who this info is coming from buts that's just upping the imaginary value....

I had my GeForce 256 SDR relisted 4 times for €30 before I sold it locally (every important information was there)

There's a Guillemot GF256 SDR that is going for under $30 that's been sitting for over a week (with reasonable international shipping). I've also posted here on Vogons about a Guillemot GF256 SDR in a bundle that only went for $10 (+shipping).

HP Pavilion 751N, 1.8GHz P4 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, 64MB MX440. Uses SiS chipset, runs 98SE like a champ.

Got a bunch of motherboards today. Most are usual Socket 7 stuff by Asus and Lucky Star, but this board is something I don't have in my collection. It's a Retcon RT-4S3, also known as Kaimei KM-S4-1. It's really similar to Lucky Star LS-486e or Zida 4DPS: a SIS497 chipset, 3PCI/3ISA, onboard IDE, PS/2 and I/O and really small.

It came with an AMD DX4-100, some FPM RAM and cache, but I want to switch it to AMD 5x86 if I can figure out the jumpers (the manual doesn't have settings for this CPU). It should also support EDO RAM.

I wonder if that card could be fixed, maybe the traces aren't damaged too badly and all it would need would be a good cleaning ?

It looks like it could be quite a challenge - he could clean the corrosion and rust off and see what is still left underneath...

And they're gone. Yes, if you snipe eBay auctions you can get a lot of stuff for cheap, doesn't mean thats the going rate. Also, my Asus V6800 filter might be broken. 2nd time one has gotten away where it doesn't even show up.

I scored a pair of great condition, sequential-numbered Realistic Minimus 7s in white for a few bucks at a garage sale. These are surprisingly well-respected little speakers that have something of a following online. All metal casings and un-ported (they made a later revision with ports.) Pretty pleased with that find.

Naturally I had to find something to drive them. A visit to a thrift shop produced this cute Panasonic CD/minidisc/tape deck that will do the job:

Haven't tried it yet to see what it does. (Does it read files off a disk or act as a USB audio device?) Not a huge amount of docs in English for this thing.

The same thrift shop also yielded a new floppy drive to replace the failing one for my Thinkpad and an external LS120 drive. Surprisingly. This shop usually never has anything interesting for computer parts and half of what they do have should have gone in the bin instead. These were cheap enough that even if they don't work it was worth the gamble.

^^ The LS120 is a "USB" version clearly intended to go with the original iMac after Apple had the audacity to remove the floppy drive. Unfortunately it needs a USB cable that connects to this ... thing. Nothing of the sort was to be found at the shop, because of course not. I'm hoping if I open it up it will be a standard SCSI interface or something on the inside.

Finally the walkman and matching discman came from somebody's trash. Got the AC adapters too. Yes, they work. Why would you throw these out??

the ls-120 drive will be IDE. The dongle is a "standard" usb>ide adapter, with a special connector.

As long as it adheres to the usb spec (yeah, right!) it should mean that the system is a usb "device" and connects to a usb host. There are two possibilities for what that is for. Either its for use as a DAC which is unlikely, or what it probably is. I'm guessing that's for you to connect the minidisc portion to your computer just like an MD walkman. Pretty neat if you're into that.

i cant belive it still works, seller replaced the cooler in the middle because it died, and took 2 screws off the heatsink, replaced one of those screws with a bigger that almost ruined the traces in the pcb. But i will change the heatsink with a 3rd party one because on idle it gives 54degrees C, and when 3dmark runs it reaches 74 degrees C.
