Heck if I know where this is supposed to be posted, but I figured it might be useful to note for posterity.

Apparently certain onboard Intel graphics chipsets operate very slowly with NTVDM, particularly when switching to full-screen text mode. Someone's made a patch. There's a nice little writeup describing the oversight as well:

Microsoft is surely indifferent to any further developments with NTVDM. (Well, except for maybe security vulnerabilities, but how many people could there be running still-supported versions of 32-bit Windows?)

The problem with Intel & Microsoft, and especially their combination (Intel HW running Microsoft OS) is that, being big corporations, they are absolutely unable/unwilling/unprepared to deal with technical issues from individual users.

If this issue had been found by internal validation, or raised by a major customer (OEM), e.g., it would probably have been spotted and solved a long time ago. But apparently, not one of these tests NTVDM during their validation.
