I enjoyed some of those Books that he wrote together with Niven. Sorry he is gone.

I never read any of his books, but I quite enjoyed the columns he wrote for Byte (and later his Web site). He was one of the few who could combine technical details and entertainment value into a well-written article. It saddens me to learn of his passing.
