Thanks for the tip! I thought paypal would just side with ebay because they are in the same family.

I thought they split and went their separate ways, and Paypal is a wholly separate company now...

Received these boards today. Not very clean but seem to be intact. Hope the XTs will work.

Anybody interested in the PS/2 386 and the non-standard 286? PM me...

So many barrell batteries that didn't leak ... You're really lucky !

Thanks

I removed the battery today and tried to clean the acid with vinegar. It looks like the acid has actually eaten through several traces on both sides of the board, into the AT power connector and into the keyboard controller. So I really doubt this board is salvageable.

They all leaked but luckily they didnt do any damage 😀

They are all such dirty...just removed all chips from the 486, cleaned the battery residue with vinegar. Then cleaned the whole board with lots of water and a toothbrush (dont kill me.. 😎 ) Then rinsed with Ethanol, dried with a hairdryer. After 10 minutes of work it looks like new now and after reseating the chips it powers up 😎 😎 😎

Interesting collection of boards. Glad those boards survived and are running without issues.

I won't kill you for puting old boards in water, I've been doing this myself for a while now ^^

Nothing big, but I found this little board in a pile of junk today:

qXaZHCa.jpg?1

It's a UNIQUE FDC-344 8 bit floppy controller with it's own BIOS (It came with no EPROM at all - I just burnt one using the image I found at Minuszerodegrees site). It allows IBM PC/XT and similar machines to use 1.2 or 1.44 mb drives. I guess I was lucky to get one for free just like that, as they seem to be relatively hard to find.

First I've ever seen one of those. Very cool and so unassuming. I might have overlooked that little guy in a pile of junk.

Now I have the 486, the 286 ond the XT on the first photo running.

The XT is quite irritating as my diagnostic card is totally going crazy. Nevertheless I inserted a 16-bit VGA in the 8bit slot and it powered up 😀 Next problem is the keyboard...do I really need a XT keyboard? I have a IBM Model M and a Cherry, but they do not work 🙁

EDIT: Hah, the other XT is also running. Diagnostic card also displaying garbish here. Seem they are of no use on an XT? Thats new to me...
Same issue with the keyboard however...

EDIT2: Looked through my collection and found another cherry with a XT/AT switch...now its starting IBM Basic 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎

This was a lil while ago, but it was one hell of a haul
Consisted of:
2 AST Power Premium 486's (both have some corrosion but one is in way better condition, and gives me a beep code. the other one is dead in the water)
2 Mac SE's (one with a dim CRT, but they both work and one even has a turboSE upgrade)
2 Mac Classic II's (one has a bad CRT, gonna turn the case into something useful and maybe sell the board, the other one is a wip)
a PS/2 8513 monitor (dead in the water, gonna turn it into an LCD case)
a CGA/EGA monitor (not tested)
a ton of mac software/documentation (BUT THE SYSTEM 7 BOX WAS MISSING ITS DISKETTES??!? whatever, I'll write some w my mac G4)

Received the 1GB (512MB x 2) DDR-266 for my ThinkPad R40 in the mail today, installed the RAM, and Windows XP runs better than before.

Also went thrifting and I got a game (Delta Force Land Warrior) and a 19" or so Medion MD 1998 OF monitor. $21.31 well spent ($20.20 + tax).

When I share something from imgur, it always does that. Fortunately, I put the links for each picture. Had to add the letter b before the .jpg extension... AGAIN. Darn Imgur. My other post didn't do that when I shared the CDs I got a few weeks ago.

Just select "Large Thumbnail" which adds a lower case L at the end. Lower case B is for big square.

The non-standard 286 is a Olivetti M290S motherboard

Samsung SyncMaster 997DF DynaFlat - $65 (CAD)
syncmaster997df-1.jpgsyncmaster997df-2.jpgsyncmaster997df-3.jpgsyncmaster997df-4.jpg
Not a "true" flatscreen (you can tell it's slightly curved behind the flat glass) but more flat than regular monitors. Very happy with it. There is some fuzziness in the corners so I might have to adjust the focus inside because it may have shifted over the years, but very good even picture.

Nice compromise between CRT and LCD (has more modern LCD-esque styling). Doesn't have the Trinitron Grille lines, though I've never actually noticed these on trinitrons anyway. Should serve nicely with my fast Windows 98 build I am working on.
