I think RAM for 440BX simply needs to be a Dual Sided 256MB module* (not sure if there is anything more needed than that).
*in other words, Low density (like @up said)
1GB didn't worked from start, however trying few things make it work (manually setting stuff with one DIMM and then adding more after each restart, checking each DIMM slot by itself - is also a good start).

Socket 462 = Socket A = AMD, BX2000+ is Slot-1 😉
You get flasher inside .zip with that beta BIOS.
I think changing file to .bin from .fdc should make it work on any flasher.
PS. Side note :
High End LGA 775 boards don't like high density 4GB DDR3 modules, ie. those that use chips with over 256MB capacity (ie. over 2GB/side) 😁
Well i see overall slot 1 motherboards having trouble running some memory. For example i did try double sided 128 and 256 MB modules on ABIT BE6-II, Gigabyte BX2000, ASUS P2B, (all of the memory for the test was working) and for example 256MB Adata dual rank with HyniX chips wont work on most boards, and similar things to the others, the x3 256MB Micron memory i have is working very well on ABIT BE6-II, but the same memory does not work on the Gigabyte BX2000... I have also AOpen DX34R-U is great dual Tualatin board, but that damn board wont even post, if the memory is not the exact ones that are working on that board, not sure why. So im starting to think there is general problems with the compatibility on the SDram based slot 1 board, maybe the BX4400 chipset or other...
That great board is working only with that x2 types of memory, no other memory did post the board...
