Owned a few back in the mid 2Ks and they are a great drive, That whining whir sound they make, especially when first spinning up, invigorates your veins with unicorn rainbow fires. (I have no idea what that means, but you get the idea)

WD Raptor for a retro hard drive? Geez I feel old! Retro storage to me means 32Kx8 EPROMS and MFM hard drives with ISA or S100 ST-506 controllers.

Time to go sit in my front porch rocking chair and yell at the neighborhood kids to get off my lawn... 🤣

I have 6 older 2008/9 300gb raptors in my core2 system running in raid 0, all fans are 10dba or less and I don't hear them. Even with the side panel off sitting right next to the system.

You have to go back to the older first, second gen raptors to really hear them. But your hearing may be better then mine.

FesterBlatz: Well, that's the reason, why I use "retro" PC in quotes. I know, that my system has many so called modern parts, but its still running enough retro OS (Win98). And I suppose, that not many people are liking that build, since it's not period correct, But for me, it can get the job done, and also it can connect many PC eras. And that' primary reason, why I built it the way, how its built.

Oh it's quite alright! I understand "retro" to be a subjective term. I'm guilty of using SD cards as hard drive substitutes in some of older machines, although the sounds of a rack-and-pinion Miniscribe hard drive will always bring a smile to my face.

Hmm, I discover, that this topic is much better suited for hardware like I just bought. I will remember that, and try to post in more suited topic than this (if i don't forget :). It's just, that its not on front page as this one, so I missed it somehow.

The WD3000HHLS are GREAT, I have 2 of them in raid0 on my DFI NF4 Expert and I'm hitting like 230-240MB/s in HDtune with super low seek time.

Just bought this box for 10€ at Ebay...you see the reason. Hope it still works 😀

Nice find. Since it is in a box with other cards and can be damaged easily make sure to check all the tiny legs of the three 3dfx chips first before testing the card. Shorting on any of these pins will cause the card not to function or function properly. They bend very easily.

Before powering the card it is an easy fix with a needle point and a good set of eyes (or magnifier). Not checking this first can destroy the card.

Already arrived. Its a Creative card. Looks good 😎

Also other intersting parts in the box. Unfortunately he removed all coolers from the graphics cards, therefore useless 😵

That's only a minor problem assuming they weren't damaged from the coolers being roughly removed. Are any of them interesting?

Hmmm I dont think so. They are looking intact however. If anybody is interested let me know...
I will test the 2 Mainboards (Socket 7 + 462).

Its not sealed. Box is still „glued” don’t know how to call it better - seems to be unopened. But I think I’m going to use it in actual build.

The Pentium 200 was stupidly expensive. You can still get it on eBay. I sacrificed some old Mega Drive games for it. Otherwise I wouldn't buy those absurdly priced items. The Celeron however was an unexpected and thankfully cheap eBay find. Around 10 USD I believe.

Got this Cyrix 5x86 with x4 clock multiplier on eBay for $57 USD a few weeks ago, and it finally showed up yesterday. I've been wanting the 4x variant for quite a while, so I wasn't concerned about spending so much for it. The pins ended up being fairly straight and only needed a little nudging with a credit card to get them perfect again. I still need to test it, I just stuck it in a random Socket 3 motherboard to verify the pins and take a picture.

I'm intending to use this at 4x 33MHz in a SMT 4321-22B "Terminator" PCI motherboard, assuming it's stable at that speed.

Don't all 5x86 have default x4 multiplier?
