I have plans for building an XP machine on the cheap, and I already have a lot of hardware for the build, but there's still one crucial part I'm missing, as the title would indicate. I'm looking for some kind of 775 motherboard I can pick up off eBay relatively cheaply (as in 40USD or less, hopefully). And since I'm on my phone, I'll just cut to what I want out of it.

*Support for Pentium 4's/Pentium Ds (Core 2 and Pentium Dual Core optional)
*DDR OR DDR2 RAM
*MUST have AGP 8X slot
*Ideally full ATX, though MicroATX would be fine
*Two IDE headers + floppy

Any help or ideas y'all could provide would be fantastic. 😀

Compaq Presario 2286: Cyrix MII 250MHz, 256MB PC100 SDRAM, SiS Integrated graphics, SoundBlasterPCI 128 (for cleaner output signal), 4GB Seagate (OS), 40GB Maxtor DiamondMax+ 9 (games and MIDIs)

See here for a list of motherboards that will probably match all your requirements.

LGA 775 Motherboards with AGP Slots

Here are a few that are currently listed on eBay that are in your budget.

Not seeing any full size ATX boards for that price though. Bump up to around $60 shipped

ASUS P5LD2-SE
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5LD2_SE/
Pairing with a Pentium D and 2x2GB DDR667 and a GeForce 8800(or 8600) you are good to go 😀
Recently i made a video using Athlon 64 3000+ and a 8400GS with 1x2GB only on a M2N-X and to be honest it was really really cheap and played most of my favorite games from the XP era.

Edit: ohh wait it need AGP, then a Pentium 4 Prescott on a P5P800-VM

guys you dont get it

he says its a must an AGP 8x

and there are not that many 775 boards with an agp slot.
I was lucky to actually buy one of those RARE asrock boards that got AGP + PCI-E Slots. Asrock 775dualVISTA
or Asrock 775i65G rev2 with agp slot, rev2 has support even for quad cores.

P5P800-VM is a socket 775 board with agp 8x and ddr dual channel.

Really????

All the boards I posted links to have AGP.

And there is a fair number of boards that support it if you look at that thread I posted a link to.

I have my ecs p4m800pro 1.0a. Actually for whats its worth being ecs it was actually decent and stable. Has agp 8x only downside if its matter to some is it isnt dual channel memory. For something cheap ecs always comes to mind. Sure there hit or miss but for me its been a decent board.

Just wanted to add that Pentium D (Presler) line IS actually dualcore. And a hefty speed difference to aforementioned P4s as well. Night and day.

Hi MII-333. I bought ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 for my "retro" overkill PC for 25$ include shipping. VIA chipset probably isn't best, but it completely supports Windows 98 (Windows XP obviously too), and it supports probably every LGA 775 CPU with FSB up to 1066MT/s (so even Core2Quad Q6x00, Wolfdale and lot more). And price wise, I got it for almost nothing. Bonus is, that it has not only AGP port, but also PCIe, and it can work with DDR and DDR2 RAM.

Socket 775 - ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA, Pentium E6500K, 4GB RAM, Radeon 9800XT, ESS Solo-1, Win 98/XP
Socket A - Chaintech CT-7AIA, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9600XT, ESS ES1869F, Win 98
