I deided to install the Media Vision Pro Audio Studio 16 ISA sound card (with SCSI) into my Socket 370 build with success after changing the IRQ and DMA from PCI/ISA to ISA Legacy, works within the MS-DOS mode (F8 and command prompt only option), as well as the MS-DOS Prompt in Windows 98SE. However, within Windows, the sound output is way too fast, excluding the OPL2/OPL3 synthesizer as well as MS-DOS games.

I enabled the option to use the 28MHz Oscilator that's on the sound card to no avail. It worked (somewhat) in my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus with some success (other sound card caused conflicts). What seems to be the issue here? I'm using the drivers from Microsoft after using the add new hardware option within the Control Panel program since the card is not Plug-n-Play capable.

Could be that your PSU is lacking the 5V line:

Maybe it's working in DOS because you're just using the thunderboard portion of the card? I.e. the SB 2.0 compatibility - the PAS16 bit is basically a separate card and I think it's the bit that needs 5V.

I agree with badmojo.
The fast sound effect is said to often occur if the -5v line is missing.

Also, in case you'r wondering,
the default settings for PAS16's DAC are :

Port 388h
IRQ 10
DMA 3

Thunderboard is at Port 220h, IRQ 5*, DMA 1

FM is mainly at 388/389h
(SB2.x had OPL2 also at 228h/229h)
(OPL3 on SB16/SBP2 is at 220/221h (OPL3 primary); 222h-223h (OPL3 secondary))

MPU is at 330h, IRQ2 (early models may have got no MPU-401)
SCSI is at 340h, IRQ 11 (some models lack SCSI)

(*IRQ7 is was used by Sound Blasters before SB Pro 2.
Older games may hard-coded to that IRQ.)

Where do I find an ATX PSU that has the -5v line or a -5v line adapter for the current ATX PSU I have? Would a normal ATX PSU with the -5v have all 20 pins utilized?

You will need an older ATXv1.3 PSU. The sticker on the side will specify a maximum current for the -5V rail as it does for the others.

There are ATX to AT adapters with -5V converters, so something could certainly be made for ATX to ATX conversion. Alternately, ARGUS cards will have the option of injecting -5V back onto the ISA bus. Other expansion cards or card hacks could certainly do the same.

I thought I'd replied to this thread, then realized I'd posted about this here:
What retro activity did you get up to today?

Also, there are -5v ATX adapters available on eBay.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Antronst on eBay (not me) sells them. Searching for them is a bit tricky so I am including links here.

You're a lifesaver. I'm gonna get two of the 24-pin to 20-pin ATX adapters, plus the 20-pin to P8/P9* with the -5V for my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus (in case the AT PSU blows up, which surprisingly still functions as it never collected dust).

*Purchased one back in 2012 for the 486 I had until 2013 when I ended up using an ATX PSU for the Socket 7 board.
