And you are getting to keep the card? If so, fix that cut trace and I would guess that you have a pretty good chance of the card coming to life.
fixing it is beyond my skils

Sound Blaster AWE64 CT4520 < good soundcard
wrote:Sound Blaster AWE64 CT4520 < good soundcard
Are you saying that the CT4520 is not a good sound card?
the "<" stands for "less than" generally speaking.
What are the rest of your system specs?
What games/applications are your running or want to run?
Do you just want a good card that has soundblaster support or do you want wavetable midi as well?

What motherboard do you have?
If you have a SBLINK/PC-PCI header on your motherboard, a PCI sound card (Yamaha YMF-7x4 based) is probably going to be your best bet.
I might have some suggestions for ISA, but with that speed of CPU I need to do some testing first to make sure my top choices for "just works" are not going to freak out with a higher speed CPU.
Also, did the seller let you keep the broken CT3620?
yes i could keep the broken soundcard but i already sold it
dont know wat kind of motherboard i have has 1 isa slot and agp slot pci slots
i can buy the Sound Blaster AWE64 CT4520 for 15 euros
motherboard is ms 6309 rev 1 ?
iam using a isa vibra card now works perfect only the popping bug sucks
The AWE64 CT4520 is a good card and won't have the hanging notes bug.
It should work for what you are wanting to use it for, but it doesn't have true Yamaha OPL and will sound slightly different for games using FM synthesis.
See here for some more information about the different AWE32 and AWE64 cards.

i understand but true opl cards are expensive
i like how the vibra card sounds but the bug sucks is there any way to fix the bug
No way to fix the bug unless you change the DSP chip on the card to a version that doesn't have the hanging note bug. And that is pretty pointless unless you have a dead doner card.
Creative cards are the only cards that have a hanging note bug as far as I know.
True OPL cards aren't expensive as long as you don't have to have a Creative card. And even then, as long as you watch and wait, you can score Creative cards with real OPL3 for cheap.
I currently have a lot of sound cards on the way with a CT2950 that has real OPL3 that I got for $15.27 US shipped.
There are a huge number of non-Creative cards out there that have real OPL3.
One of my favorites is an Opti 930 based card with real or clone OPL3 with onboard wavetable. A simple initilization/configuration program and it works for pretty much everything.
Those come up every once in a while on eBay and I think I pretty much have just about every single variation of that card now. Some I purchased by themselves and some came in lots with other cards.
You can also get Yamaha based ISA sound cards. Those have great compatibility and built in OPL3.
And Aztech cards pretty much all have real or clone OPL3 chips on them. They also have really good compatibility. Pretty much all Packard Bell sound cards were just relabeled Aztech cards.
The first gen ones do have speed sensitivity issues though so you would need to use one of the newer Aztech cards in your system.
where can i download drivers for the awe64 / google gives me nothing

As your motherboard has a VIA chipset (and no PC/PCI header), the ESS Solo 1 chipset will be excellent for DOS gaming. As others have mentioned, there's a multitude of options for ISA sound cards.
All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

Just use the add/remove programs in the control panel. That should clean it up just fine. Anything left in the autoexec.bat and config.sys from the old card you can remove manually.
For the AWE64 drivers, you should be able to download the latest directly from Creative Labs.

If you want the original install CDs, I am pretty sure they are available on vogonsdrivers.com
vogon only has awe gold cd

Should work just fine. You really only need it for the applications.

Hanging not bug is a non issue as it only effects external MIdi/wavetable and you already said your not interested in that
I vaguely remember something about popping bug but not the details or reason.
For the most part I though vibra were actually the cleaner sounding cards. (when comparing against SoundBlaster, so admittedly that's not saying much)
There was a really good list most of the isa soundcards listing the chips used and various pro's cons but I cant find it today 🙁 Its linked on vogons somewhere!
But this is all irreverent anyway, the AWE64 is a good match for a P3 800.
