Went onto VCFed.org forums to look at threads, and one caught my eye entitled: Looks like Tandy 1000 worths gold now...

Apparently, the new CBS Series, Young Sheldon, showed the Tandy that Sheldon had (which looked like the late 1980's), plus Radio Shack (who remembers those stores?). There are a couple of YouTubers out there that have a Tandy that they acquired, cleaned, fixed, showed, and overviewed the systems (features, software, hardware, etc.), and the Tandy systems I've seen on eBay are going for more than 3 tires for my car, especially as-is, non-working conditions, just like the IBM PC AT 5170.

Please, do not feed the trolls, no criticizing, and absolutely no hate about the prices for the Tandy systems. This is for humor (humour for the Brits, Canadians, and Aussies). If this thread needs to be closed, mods, feel free to do so.

Also, any eBay links posted on here is against the rules as this site is NOT for auctioning, advertising, or marketing. If you want to make money, post the links somewhere else (not on this thread or site).

I've seen more Amigas, c64s and Apple 2s for sale in Australia than Tandys, and they usually go for around $500. Were they even sold in quantity here?

Either as the system themselves, or with accessories (keyboards, mice, joysticks), monitors, diskette drives and software, and peripherals (printers, modems, and so on). Also, what's a C74? Don't you mean C64?

To be honest a Tandy system is a sweet thing to have. Especially in working conditions. If you have Tandy specific games even better. They have not fared as well as the IBM machine (which were much better built). It is not just the Commonwealth that pays high prices for Tandys. Here in US too. I have a Tandy 1000 HD and a Tandy 4800HD in my collection and I would not part with them 😀

Amiga on the other hand are even more expensive than a Tandy (in US). The eBay pricing goes like this: Commodore 64 < Apple II < Tandy < Amiga.

I'm glad I got my two 1000TX systems when I did. One was a complete setup with monitor, printer etc for around $300 US and the other I got super cheap since I think the owner was just looking to unload it? They are nice systems but I can't imagine anyone paying $700-$1000 US to own one, that is almost what one cost back in the day. I think the original retail price of a basic system with monitor was around $1200?

I don't see this as anything more than a temporary blip in prices being driven by the popularity of the show. I think once the show passes peak popularity it is unlikely these will continue to command such high prices. But who knows.

Like a Commodore 64? I was lucky to get two of them (one for $40+ shipped, and another one $100+ shipped). One has an aftermarket case that looks like both the breadbin and C64C combined (has ventilation as well, which is nice).

Considering the series' constant violations of blantant dork-fueld anachronism i'd expect a Gateway P3 rig in a 1994 set taking place in January 1990something.

No - Apple II and C64 hardware is plentiful as many came from schools in Australia, Amigas less so and Tandy the least common in my experience.
