What kind of develoment libraries should I install in MinGW? Do I have to get a MinGW-specific (package probably ends with -devel-MinGW), or could I use any package the end with -devel?
easiest is too compile the sources yourself.
but else you need mingw specific.

MinGW is a gigantic headache to set up, in my opinion. I'd really like to update some of its components, but it's so damn confusing trying to track them down and then install them without breaking it.

For the most basic stuff, you need the MinGW and MSYS packages, but there are many versions and updates to each from what I remember.
