trying to install Age of Rifle from dos box

at D: I type "install"
when i get to install screen AoR checks EMS and XMS and they seem fine but I keep getting "error reading free drive bytes"

any ideas ive tried hitting the install while in AoR install file in XP and I get an error that I dont have enough XMS

1.6 Ghz p4
1 gig Ram
2 HDs 40 gig and 80 gig
gforce ti 4200
