Hi all 😀

Well .. old fart here.. almost 40 years old and just received a copy of an old game or two I used to love. I found Exult to play Ultima VII but didn't know what to do to get WC4 and WC3 installed, short of formatting an old laptop with DOS 6.2 - but God knows where I'd get video/sound drivers for DOS for those and trying to remember how to configure everything.. ugh.. ::shudders::

It was awesome to see this site and emulator - and I installed it to C:\dosdox (WC4 is in it's own Directory on C:) and mounted the CDRom drive, turning off EMS and XMS, and cd'd into the cdrom and ran INSTALL - however WC4 setup hangs and won't move at the screen where it's supposedly detecting my laptops specs/cpu/video/etc etc..

Any tips would be appreciated. I also tried DosboxPro? or Dosboxer? seemed to be a gui for dosbox - nice little app.

thanks!
Jeff 😊

For reference, which version of DOSBox are you trying to use?

Also, I hear D-Fend is a good frontend (GUI) for DOSBox, although I haven't tried it.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Check the GUIDES and such for finding out how to speedup DOSBox. Also, SEARCHINGthe forum enquiring WC4 might prove useful.

Good luck. 😎

wc4.
heavy game. Don't expect it to run well.
You might want to try a cvs build of dosbox. You can find it in the development forum as lot of fixes are present there especially for newer games.

Thanks for the replies guys - not sure what a cvs build is - does that mean its' beta?

I'll check it out.

The sticky thread in the dev forum explains all about CVS builds. It's kind of an ongoing beta version, only updated more frequently (so I guess maybe more like alpha versions, but they tend to be pretty stable).
