I also have a Celeron 500MHz (Mendocino core) but no mobo to put it in 🙁 Hope I find a 440BX S370 mobo to put it in.

Also a virtual cookie to anyone who recognizes the names of the Coppermine, K6-2 and Duron machines.

Just converted a CuMine only mobo (the 6VA694+) into a Tualatin compatible board!

I used the Soyo SY-7VBA133U BIOS - it works just fine, and now the board POSTs happily with a Tualatin P3 at 1.1GHz.

Just a heads up - if you have a VIA 694X motherboard and a Tualatin, don't skip the 694X! I might be able to help you convert it to a Tualatin compatible board by just flashing a BIOS meant for 694T! They're the same chipset, with the only difference being the 694T supports Tualatin while 694X does not, otherwise they're 99% the same and compatible between each other (as long as the BIOS is coded to support Tualatins, that is)

Wasn't there also a bit different socket? At least when people did the mods, the pins had to be rewired. Most probably for proper voltage as Tualatins need only 1.5V.

Great news!!!

The K6-2 is going to arrive here on Monday!

In the meantime, what would you suggest I should do to it once I get it? I already planned to install 98SE w/ Plus, but other than that, what would your ideal 98SE drive would include? I was thinking of 98lite (for some performance boost) and a Unofficial Service Pack 3.

Okay, noted.

What should I look into then? Any hotfixes I should be looking into specifically?

Okay, although wouldn't IE6 not work? I plan on using 98lite to slim the main install down.

I found that Unofficial SP3 works fine after you install IE6.0 on Win 98SE

if you don't install IE6.0, explorer will no longer work.

98lite replaces explorer with the 95 version.

...aaand the K6-2 500 arrived!

One dented Tayeh cap (only a bit) but otherwise it POSTs fine and works as it should. Didn't get a successful boot into 98 but I suspect that being a conflict as the HDD came from the 7KXA machine.

I discarded the K7VZA machine for a KT400-based configuration with the Gigabyte GA-7VAX (KT400, DualBIOS). The only thing left to do on it now is to get it to run Athlon XPs. For some weird reason any 333 Athlon will shut down a few seconds after powering on. Semprons and Durons POST fine though.

Updated the soundcard in the K6 - now it sports a Yamaha OPL3-SAX ISA Soundcard (from Labway).
