Might and Magic 2 saving trouble

Operating system: Windows XP
Game: Might and Magic 2 (not Heroes)
Problem: I cannot create new characters or save the game. Before the game starts, I get the message:

Insert Might and Magic disk 1
in a floppy drive and hit ENTER

Might and Magic Original disk 1 not found-
Roster will not be saved during gameplay... hit ENTER

Then the game starts and I can't save the roster =/

What I've done:

Z:\> mount c c:\games\mm2
Z:\>c:
C:\>loadfix mm2

Didn't work.

2nd try:

Z:\> mount c "c:\games\mm2" -t cdrom -label "Might2"
MSCDEX: Mounted Subdirectory: Limited Support
Drive C is mounted as CDROM

Z:\>C:

C:\> loadfix mm2

And I get the same error message.

C:\> Might2
Illegal Command

So, what do I do about this?

Why would the game want to write if it thought it was running from a CD-ROM? I'm confused about your setup.

Either the game is already installed and you should be doing something like this:
mount c c:\games
cd mm2
loadfix mm2

Or you need to install it first:
mount c c:\games
mount d <path to CD-ROM> -t cdrom -ioctl
d:
install (or however it's done)

It seems it is asking for an original floppy. I think original Might & Magic 2 came on floppies. It may be copy protected. First you need to mount it as floppy.

Z:\>mount a a:\ -t floppy

And then cross your finger to see if it works. If not, you may need a crack, but do not ask here where to get it. Cracks are illegal.

PS - Just a remark: The game is from 1988 and it is less than 600KB (compressed with RAR). I really doubt it came on CD.

PS2 - Tested it. Yes, you need to use a CRACK for it to work.

PS3 - You also need to use LOADFIX when loading it; otherwise it will complain there is not enough memory. And one final thing: there is no difference running VGA or Tandy version. The graphics (EGA) and sound (Beeper) are exactly the same.

Can you tell me if there is a crack?

My original copy came on a CD, but I don't have the original.

I used loadfix. Getting the game to run isn't the problem.

Look for a crack on the net. It shouldn't be that difficult to find. OR wait for DOSBox 0.64 release to come out.
You should also try some CVS version in the interim (Search the forum for details).
