Hook it up to a working ST-506 controller and see if you can get it detected/formatted/working 😉
(RLL and MFM both use ST-506, the difference is in encoding - and MFM is less demanding than RLL, so any RLL drive can be formatted and used as MFM)

Unlikely the two in that lot will help though, and even if you have a working controller, the drive seemed electrically OK, but had mechanical issues - it sounded like a wheel with a rusty brake disk being rotated when powered up...

I will see what I can dig up. The two that came with it are in a pretty sad state, but I have more. Maybe the controllers in one of my Tulips will do the job 😀

Pentium II 400. MSI MS-6151 Version1. I'm interested how good/bad the onboard ATi Rage works.

This Banshee came with the Pentium.

And finally i got a GeForce 256. It's a birthday present from my brother. Never found one on ebay.

Got a lot of nice stuff this week. Best things came today:

Philips CD-i 470 (already have a huge CD-i collection, wanted this model badly), the corresponding MPEG card, and Ultima Trilogy for FM TOWNS complete and in nice condition.

And for some reason, Music Quest MPU-401 cards have been popping up for cheap lately. Put in an offer and it was accepted. Shipping from overseas was stupid high.. but this one is boxed and was still a good deal as I got it for about the same price shipped as one of my other Music Quest cards (8-bit) (half of what a repro card is). This one is a Rev A. The one I got right before this is a Opcode/Music Quest one and is a rev B and is even more integrated... posted a page or two before this.

S3 Trio64V+ PCI and Adaptec AHA39160 PCI-X SCSI controller. Been thinking of getting the latter for a while but now I have an actual use for it so I took the plunge. Each of them was below $8.

Found an IBM PC 300GL for rather cheap but it turned out to be a slot 1 p3, probably a via apollo pro chipset matz slot1 board. Not sure if it is worth getting shipped; especially not with its E74 monitor, I will ger the case only if I end up biting..

Diamond Stealth 64 Video VRAM 3400. I'm not sure if it is 4 MB on the card with 4 MB on the memory add-on card or if it's 4 MB in total. Will have to fire up my 486 system this week to test it. I probably paid a little too much, but it is the top card in the series 😀

Based on this image http://www.vgamuseum.info/images/palcal/diamo … ovramreve3b.jpg the base card has 8 memory chips, each 256kx8 so a total of 2MB which is typical for S3 cards of that era. I assume the addon card brings another 2MB for 4MB total.

Do you happen to know what was the purpose of that bracket top left? I had the exact same model of 3dfx Banshee card, and TO THIS DAY I do not know what that was for!! It is an unsolved mystery I have tried to solve for decades.

I've given a pretty decent go at finding information about this particular SKU, and the only images I can find only of it is a super low-res photo from an old QVC.com listing.

I haven't opened it - yet - as I don't really foresee using it. However, I did scan the box for posterity.

just cleaned the previous stuff, the condition of the bx6 (v2.02) is amazing. i will replace the p3b-f to this.

the case also not bad, especially after 18+ years service. i really like the inside of the case. it is much more "future proof" that the good looking, but horrible inside inwin 500.

Got a new retro computer to clean, repair and refurbish yesterday:

The best part:
MS-6168 motherboard (slot 1 with voodoo 3 and sound blaster 128)

Old owner wasn't sure if the motherboard still worked, but fortunately, it still did once I disassembled the computer. I washed the motherboard, dried it and replaced a capacitor that was starting to bulge. Might order some polymers and replace all of the caps, or may just let it be and see if any more caps need replacing in the future. Also updated BIOS so it wouldn't choke on larger IDE hard drives. My guess is that the dodgy electrolytic capacitor was screwing up the motherboard on cold boots, making the first boots from storage for the old owner unsuccessful

I'll have to replace the noisy fan on the voodoo 3 eventually.

In the pack, I also got the following parts:
* 650mhz Pentium III Slot 1 CPU
* 256meg SD RAM + 2 x 128meg SDRAm
* Extra 550mhz Pentium III CPU on a slocket.
* USB floppy drive (useful for transferring data to old XT computer)
* Combo memory card reader/floppy disk drive.
* Quantum Fireball 8gb drive
* Couple of DVD IDE drives

So not a bad haul.
