playing a game that requires selection of commands w/ the keyboard. However, response is too fast/ sensitive (i.e. if a menu has 4 choices, could not select the middle ones. pressing up slightly will go to the top and pressing down slightly will go to the bottom choice). Anyway to lower the keyboard sensitivity?

Is it old? try lowering the cycles to real low values (100, 300, 500 or so).

yeah...early 90s...Tried that. Game will slow down a lot but keyboard still overly responsive.

Is the game freeware? Otherwise it's not really possible
to tell what's going wrong.
