Playing Extreme Pinball after a relatively small time playing the sound gets very 'scratchy'.

It starts off like this but after a couple of minutes play it ends up like this

Using gulikoza's build from 9th Oct 05
Direct3D + 2x scaler or OpenGLHQ output modes
Cycles around 9000
Frameskip 0
Sound rate of 44100
Pentium M-760
SB Audigy 2ZS

If I drop the sound rate back to 22050 then I don't seem to get the problem (was seeing if 44100 gave any better quality).

Just wondered if this is known about/expected?!

I've noticed this with Extreme Pinball with SB (can't remember the samplerate). GUS seemed to work ok, except that it would crash if you tried to get back to the main manu. This was a while ago though.

Although I no nothing about the GUS, I downloaded the GUS 4.11 drivers and installed them.

No more static when playing Extreme Pinball 😀 Thx for that! Also the version of DOSBox I'm using doesn't crash (at least it didn't the couple of times I tried) when going back to the menu.

How did you install new drivers in Doxbox? I never knew you could update those.

IBM ThinkPad X40
1.2Ghz with 2MB L2 cache
1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM
Intel 852/855GME Graphics Media Accelerator with 64MB
12'' LCD Screen
SoundMax Integrated Audio

Peas Pobie!

I found links to V4.11 GUS drivers and installed them into C:\ULTRASND which is where DOSBox read/writes 'something'. There's a host of patch files present so I thought they might be loaded... as I said, I know nothing about GUS cards or drivers so this may not have been necessary however!

No, DOSBox only expects to find patch files in the MIDI directory underneath the ULTRASND directory. I didn't know whether these patch files were available as a separate download so I just installed the drivers and there was a directory full of files 😀

AFAIK the DOS drivers are not used as the GUS device is like all other devices - emulated (this may not be the correct term for all services however). Video is inbuilt and what you have available depends on what build you're running - I run a CVS build with D3D and OpenGL[HQ] enabled.
