tried searching, not sure if there is a thread for this.

But I'm looking for recommendations on relatively quiet, easily available and fairly priced CD-ROM drives with an IDE / PATA interface.

I define quiet as:
The case doesn't start making vibration noises even when everything is screwed down properly or even mechanically isolated.
I don't need to turn up the volume because the drive motor sounds like a 747

Just a nice quiet drive that hums away.. I understand you're not going to get very quiet above 8x - 16x but still. I could probably live with an 8x drive if it meant it was a lot less noisy.
my first CD-ROM ever didn't work right and I ended up with a different 8x model during the return/exchange and that thing was god awful horribly loud and I think I have optical drive noise PTSD to be honest 😕
