I just finished Tomb Raider 1 using Glidos and am now trying to play the Gold levels. I can't seem to load the Gold levels or "Unfinished Business" with Glidos and play them. I have the Gold disc and have gone through all the different types of setup but I end up with a blank screen and nothing seems to work. I have paid the Glidos fee which was necessary to complete most of the levels of Tomb Raider 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. šŸ˜•

I'm not totally sure šŸ˜’ . Did you set the" Unfinished business" in the Glidos dialog box?

Yes, I clicked on "Unfinished Business" and NOT "Tomb Raider" in the Glidos Dialog Box.

A couple things:

1. You installed the Gold levels in your TR1 folder, right? Make sure you're using the correct TOMBUB executable that is compatible with 3dfx cards.

2. If you want to use the free online levels instead of the Gold CD (advantages: you can play both TR1 and TRUB with just the original CD, no need for swapping, plus you get the ambient tracks to work in Glidos), then you need to edit your Glidos.ini file, locate the Unfinished Business section and remove the following line:

CDCheckFile: data\End2.phd

Kaminari: Thanks for the inputs. However, since I'm not the sharpest computer whiz in the world (particularly on older programs), I have the following questions:
(1) How do I make sure that I'm using the correct TOMBUB executable that is compatible with 3dfx cards? There is a TOMBUB.exe file in the folder but I don't know which version it is. I did install the Gold levels in my TR1 folder called TOMBRAID, or so I thought.
(2) How do I locate and edit the Glidos. ini file, find the Unfinished Business section and remove the file called "CDCheckFile: data\End2.phd"...if I want to use the free online levels instead of the Gold CD? I've tried the MS-DOS command prompt but didn't seem to get anywhere.
Sorry to be so incredulous but I'm more used to playing the newer XP type games than the older Windows 95 or 98 "compatible" ones.

When you get a black screen, its worth hitting ESC a few times. It may be that UBs audio isn't configured correctly and its stuck in a cut scene.

A special version of TOMUB.exe is required for UB to work with Glidos. If your installation procedure didn't include any special considerations for TOMUB.exe then you definitely have the wrong one. The version you need may be on the Gold CD - I can't remember. If it is, it will be in a folder called 3dfx or voodoo. Alternatively, you can download it from here

Jim, the link I provided in my previous post (text in bold) should point you to the correct version from Eidos -- there are a couple of them hanging around (the one on my Gold CD was a beta!), but this one is certified to work with Glidos.

I've followed your suggestions and tried just about everything but still can't get Tomb Raider Gold to play. When I download and double click the correct TOMBUB.exe that is compatible with 3dfx cards, I still get the same message, namely that the "Glidos server is not present". However, a version of Glidos IS in my Tombraid file. Right now in my Tombraid file, there are several versions of TOMB and TOMBUB, but they all react the same as above when I double click them. Also when I try to start up the Glidos dialog box for Unfinished Business and have the TR Gold disc in the drive, it brings up the Core Design logo and then the screen goes blank. Pressing ESC doesn't help. I've also had some trouble with the dialog box telling me that it can't copy pollpipe.dll. At this stage I can't seem to use either the correct TOMBUB executable or the free online levels. What is a gamer to do? [/u]

You need to start Glidos before double-clicking on tombub.exe. Better still start UB using the Glidos's "start game" button.

When I double click on Glidos and click the "Start Game" button that is when I get the prompt "Can't Copy Pollpipe.dll to c:\TOMBRAID". I didn't have this problem with the original TR 1 game. I tried to copy Pollpipe.dll to my TOMBRAID folder but it won't work.

Make sure the Tombraid folder is on the C drive and that it's not read-only.

Tombraid is in the C drive and has been changed to not-read only. But still have same problems as before.

Hey, I finally figured it out. I went back to my Tomb Raider Gold Disc 2 and found a folder called 3D Patches and discovered the correct version of Tombub.exe. I copied it to my Tombraid folder and it now works like a charm with Glidos. I just completed the Return to Egypt and am now ready to tackle Temple of the Cat. Thanks everyone for all your help. Sorry if I'm such a lardhead.
