Just noticed this when the trains go by in a scene everything slows to a crawl. My XP rig (see my sig) should have enough muscle for this game, is this a bug and if so is there a patch for it?

Sorry, I can't help, but I do know that over the years Valve have improved (or at least altered) Half-Life 2's program and data, so perhaps you're using a newer version of the game, that needs more resources than your PC has?

Yeh, if its not a version problem then possibly a settings problem? you are correct your hardware as far as i can tell should be able to slay this game. Vsync? what monitor is being used? what refresh rate? programs in the background?

I have a version of HL2 from 2004 that runs like a dream on my A64 3800+/2GB DDR RAM/ X800XT PE 256MB @ 575/575 @ 1080p max settings. No stuttering just the odd dip to the high 30s when in a busy area. Newer versions added a lot to the engine that will kill performance on older cards of the era.

The original 2004 build did have a lot of sound cache related stutter though...
